MEL - LHR Return on QF in Business

Appears I have been hijacked somewhat after what (I thought) was a simple review of the qantas service I received.
Hope it has been of use to others who were thinking of flying qantas business.

Don't worry willjd, the majority of us have enjoyed your review.. don't let it put you off making others..

one person has an OCD about QF flights via DXB... i am surprised why he didn't comment as to why QF1 was late on the 21/12/12.. no matter he mustn't have been paying attention to it..

Hi NFF, tbh it feels like just another airport terminal, slightly diff shops but we straight to the lounge so can't comment fairly. I did notice a shop selling gold things though :)

Is there much to do at DXB for transiting passengers ?

Not a huge amount. You can terminal explore and/or lounge hop if that's your thing. The D/F shops aren't anything special. The EK lounges are pretty swish though.

IMO... it's far less exciting than any asian city transit...

It is an interesting point. I dislike SIN as a transit because security is at the gate, and I never liked the lounges, although towards the end the EK lounge was welcome relief.

DXB has become my favourite stopover now though. I love the EK F Lounge, it is so easy to find somewhere quiet and I particularly enjoy the a la carte restaurant if I'm in Y. I don't del like I'm crammed in with the herds.

I can see that others have different requirements and I am probably unusual in my own. (As I have said travel is a chore for me so comfort, peace and quiet are the things I seek.)

Hi TonyHancock

Wondering what your issue is with security at the gate at SIN? I've never experienced any delays at that point and its not as if they will close the flight if you are stuck in a queue at the gate - as opposed to a remote enter-the-terminal airside security queue.

(But like you I love the EK Flounge at DXB and am not enamored of the new QF lounge at SIN.)

Without speaking for TonyHancock, I personally find the security at the gate a bore. I would rather get it over with at the start of check-in/transit, and then when the flight is called walk straight onto the plane from the lounge.

To the OP

How long did you have to wait for an available shower cubicle in DXB (in J lounge IIRC) ?

Some had reported a bit of a queue if you're unlucky.

I will have this trip soon but will visit the F lounge so hopefully my shower queue would be better than my last J experience.

Have been 4 times now and 2 times straight in, 1 time a 5 minute wait, the 4 th a ten minute wait for the shower

Actually, come to think of it, we often need to wait longer at the local bank branch for a transaction but when travelling in premium cabins and/or with some status, we tend to look upon a 5-10 min waiting as an aberration.

Just a thought !

Up until the last year of QF flying to LHR through SIN it was fine, but in the last year it was a complete shambles with no priority queue. It always seemed to be from the gates right at the end.

I like prepare myself for boarding in the lounge and not have to get everything out again just prior to boarding too.

Welcome to MEL airport...where priority tags mean nothing.

I'm not sure Heathrow manages it either... Arriving into LHR with bags tagged first on 19 December, our bags (along with all the other first bags) were the absolute last ones to arrive. Very frustrating as it had only taken us under ten minutes to get off the plane and through immigration, and my sister in law was waiting to collect us.
