MEL "Lounge" Upgrades

Been J from melbourne many times, never been redirected either. There on Tuesday morning for a J flight to Perth and will see what happens.

There tomorrow for a j flight to Perth. Will be shocked if anyone mentions it!

There is meant to be a J class area. As you walk in the MEL lounge, on the right hand side where the glass partition walls are, the slightly different seats and tables should have reserved signs on them. As I always fly J as well I have been directed to this area as a reserved J area. The lounge angels in MEL told me that this will be expanded with the extension completion. I don't think it gets widely publicised unless their fantastic concierge gentleman "Brad" is there. He is usually very careful to direct J class guests to this area.

Been in the lounge a number of times with J BP (not recently though). Never been directed there, never heard about it.

Obviously very exclusive to Brad's mates.

Fly J out of Melb lots, seen it packed and and also empty, never been directed to a J section and I've struck Brad a few times in the lounge, very pleasant and helpful a couple of times when I've asked him for assistance.

If you're on the 7am Perth flight I'll see you in the lounge!

I thought you were a "10am at the earliest" flyer Liam. How are you going to make a severner? ;)

So is this "J area" just purely used in peak to ensure J pax definitely get a seat, or are there nice perks on offer as well? As MEL does have a space problem, it's probably a good idea regardless.

The expansion seems to be towards the Gates 11+ pier (a long distance)
so I am struggling to see how they can introduce a security screen.

I am, but I had to make an international connection. I was not pleased at getting up at 3:45 for a 6am flight.

Just guessing, but maybe security in the whereabouts of the current entry with airside access post security to each pier.
