I have always felt I got good value out of my QC membership - not only for business travel, but also when taking the family on holidays, we would typically fly with JQ and thus have QC access.

But now with T5 opening (is it this year?) it seems Jq is moving to T5 and there will be no QC when departing MEL n JQ.

DO others here have the same consideration and are considering not renewing QC membership?

I think the precedent has been set with both the closing of the SYD T2 lounge and the very limited hours at OOL, despite all the JQ options to SYD and MEL.

I imagine the new MEL setup will be similar to what is currently seen at SYD. The fact the SYD T2 QP closed when QF Link flights moved to T3 shows what QF thinks of lounge access to those travelling on JQ, despite JQ being the only direct Qantas Group option to certain ports (e.g. SYD-TSV, SYD-LST).

I can see MEL having the same setup, with eligible JQ pax being able to use the MEL T1 QF lounges, before walking the new JQ terminal for their JQ flight.

I'd imagine there would be a fair few QF elites on some of the JQ routes out of MEL (thinking OOL and possibly the Tasmanian routes), but after all QF and JQ are only related when it suits them

yeah I was going to say I didn't hear anything about T5...

I don't think the question is
DO others here have the same consideration and are considering not renewing QC membership?
but will people with status stop taking JQ flights to have access to the lounge?

Does JQ, as a completely separate entity to QF, pay QF hard cash for every single JQ passenger that uses the QP?

If not (which is what I suspect), it is a difficult business case to build/operate a QP which does not earn any revenue.

Not exactly completely separate, but as status_seeker says above, they are related only when it suits them :) .

I imagine the decision to have a QC at T4 would be a business decision for JQ management in which case I hope nobody is holding their breath.

Given that one of the big selling points of the redevelopment of T4 is undercover landside access between all terminals, asking people to walk from T1 QC to T4 is probably seen as reasonable given most JQ pax are leisure travellers, presumably with more time to spare.

Will see how many people want to clear security twice though (not usually a big pain in Australia)

I completely forgot about this when taking out my QC membership last week. Hopefully T4 will be easily connected by foot with T1.

I wouldn't bother if it was me. It's a lot of hassle just for a free drink.
