Yet again had to run the gauntlet of untrained, absurdly slow and straight out rude staff tonight heading to gates 15-17. Have learnt not to wait for lounge call as can't get through security at a sensible pace normally. Tonight they were on full rude setting.

I know they need to do the apron upgrades to other gates but why can't they put a significantly better security service here - there's only 3 scanners (ie only one more) on the other side for 5 times as many gates. Security seems to delight in pi@&jng off Virgin customers here. (It's ISS here?)

Oh and joy - whilst typing flight now delayed due to cabin crew ... Not going to risk going back to the lounge again!

I concur with you, there is something seriously wrong with this terminal!

I actually wrote a email to our VA rep (just as an FYI) and said feel free to pass onto whoever their airport contact was if they felt it was fair.

Our VA rep replied said they have ongoing high volume of complaints about security and it's a real issue - thanked me very much for my specific feedback (had date / time etc) because that is the kind of feedback they needed to act....

In meantime I guess we grit our teeth!

doing my mileage run thru melb in 2 weeks....flight leaves at 6 pm.....what time should i leave the safety of the lounge with DH in tow and venture forth to security on a Saturday night?

taking hubby for his first run, so trying to make it go ooba smooth, otherwise he may make me take up another hobby :)

As long as you're flight isn't leaving from 15-17, you won't need long at all. There was nobody in the priority line and only two going through the other side when I was there on Saturday.

You have my sympathies. In a similar situation a few weeks back, I DID go back to the lounge. (turned out to be a winning move....the flight was re-delayed - I drank and ate merrily). Hopefully the situation will be acknowledged and improved.

thanks for the reply.....i was just having flash backs to TSA type lines at Orlando on a Sunday afternoon......now THATS crazy....

I've also complained about Pier F ( the nowhere gates with no priority security)
I get that a smaller percentage of flights depart from here, but when they do its a real hassle.

Its a pain in the bum that for an airport like MELd, for VA that we have to have 2 different piers.
Not only the case where if you are using the lounge, you are quite far from the (NOT gate 1-10).
One time, I had to go from one pier to the other, to get a flight, another time, I went to the wrong pier without double checking where my VB (at that time) flight was departing from, muppet that I am, went to the wrong pier, so had to double back.
SYD VA and ADL VA are still the better in this regard.
Going back to the gist of the post, I have not yet met a nice friendly xray or bomb resudue "officer" at any airport.
They are either gruff, strict, or both.
Best to toe the line when getting xrayed, and bomb residue screened.
No use being gruff back, or arguementative back.

I've met a few nice ones, namely in Cairns , a lovely lady had a chat to me and pointed me in the lounge direction ( obviously a slow work day)
Also find that priority entry security in SYD VA Lounge are usually quite friendly and chatty, perhaps because of where they are scanning and the PAX.

I love the priority entry at SYD....so quick and friendly :)

I had a very pleasant one at MEL on Saturday

Where is this mysterious priority entry in Sydney?? I've never been able to find it!
