Thought it was odd but on 08/09 melbourne to Sydney route the below flights are all cancelled the night before. Are these for example load/capacity decisions being made rather then mechanical?

QF402 6am
QF406 6.30
QF412 7.15
QF426 9am (cancelled twice already this week)

I was meant to be on QF425 0845 SYD-MEL, got a SMS around 10.30pm saying it’s due to air traffic control limiting aircraft movements into SYD tomorrow.
Now to see where/when they rebook me.
It’s a pain when it takes the best part of 90mins to get to the airport.
Edit: Now on QF439 dep SYD 1130

Hopefully doesn't impact your day? No earlier flight offered?

Melb/syd cancellations will have an impact on anyone looking to connect onto QF11, QF81 and other international connections.

Thankfully won’t impact the day , always pays to leave plenty of time up the sleeve. In its own strange way works out better for me, after finishing work at 10pm tonight.
Needless to say with all the cancellations this is now a very full flight, prefer the window seat, and no alternative available when looking to change seats.

Weather related.
If you look at how many flights are circling SYD in holding pattern now, you’ll believe them 😅

I find that when theres impending weather (or staff) related known issues, QF tends to start cancelling and moving flights the night before where as all the other domestic airlines (including JQ) just lets it go until the morning and just deal with the chaos at the airports.

It's got to do with slots.

I was on QF413 this morning which was not cancelled.

Around 0530am, At check-in and in the lounge, proactive announcements were made that cancellations are due to expected high wind.

We boarded QF413 on time and went down South to depart but just missed the slot as ATC decided to stop using the south runway and switched to western starts only, so we had to go all the way up again. Ride itself onve airborne was bumpy and no hot beverages served.

No significant turbulence for 439, only a few mins behind schedule thanks to a full load and the taxi out from the gate at SYD.

Sigh Qantas. Why did you cancel my 10:00 qf432 from mel to syd and move me onto the 9:30 that only had passengers disembarking at 9:30 so i doubt we'll depart before 10 anyways. Couldn't you have cancelled the 9:30 instead?

Not sure if I'm missing something, but why does it matter if you arrived at the same time anyway?

It’s all a dark art but can work to your advantage. I have time restrictions so book flights I feel are going to be cancelled and now QF knows to book me on earlier services just like what happened on todays Syd mel flight
