Melbourne Airport parking - free upgrade?

I haven’t heard of this before.

Today, Melbourne Airport sent me an email giving me a free upgrade of my 3 day Value Carpark booking next week to a Terminal parking “as a special thank you” with an updated QR code to enter.

Congratulations, you have been upgraded!

Thank you for booking your parking early. As a special thank you, we would like to upgrade your Value parking booking to Terminal parking at no extra cost.

Terminal parking is conveniently located near Terminals 1, 2 and 3, just a short under cover walk to the check-in counters, ensuring your parking experience is both seamless and relaxing.

You don’t have to do anything to take advantage of your free upgrade. On the day and time of your booking, simply drive to Terminal 1, 2 & 3 Parking and follow the step below to enter.

*The free upgrade is offered as a gesture of goodwill and at the sole discretion of Melbourne Airport Management. Free upgrades are: (i) non-transferable, (ii) valid for one per customer and (iii) are not guaranteed for any future bookings. I usually use the Value carpark for my trips to ease the pressure on my corporate travel budget but having to catch the bus from my car to the terminal puts a tedious 20 minute hole in my day so this is appreciated.

I do not book parking often so I’m hardly loyal enough for a reward. Since it’s school holidays in Victoria, can they somehow make more money moving me to the Terminal carpark and freeing up a spot in the Value carpark for a longer stay?

I’m curious if anyone has any insight into when, why and how often this happens.

I have had this a few times. It does indeed always seem to be school holiday times and when I am personally only travelling to Sydney for a few days. I have always assumed (without actually having evidence) that it's to free up space in the value parking. I have taken it each time and it's worked fine. The one time I regretted it was when accepting for parking at T4 as the car park, in my opinion, is challenging to navigate in and out.

A few months ago we were just about to go into the long stay at Melbourne when we were stopped by an employee near the barrier.
They just offered us the opportunity to use the multi storey. . . which we quickly accepted.

Hasn't happened again!

Value car park completely full this week and they were using an unpaved temporary park near the QF staff car park so understand the upgrades. We used an off site provider who was also booked solid.

I've just received the same upgrade offer. Did you redeem it

I have had this twice before including over this Xmas. It happens when they expect the value carpark to be full

Yeah, I used the upgrade QR code at the Terminal car park and it worked fine getting in and out.

No idea what happens if you don’t “redeem” the offer and instead try to use the old QR code at the Value parking wicket.
