Melbourne Airport stalling and preventing bus stops at the main terminals

I shall be keeping an eye on this, as if I don't take a taxi/uber, my current route is Skybus to Southern Cross, then either public bus to my destination, or Skybus hotel transfer to HSW then walk (which I feel bad doing, as the porter comes out to greet, only for me to tell him I'm not actually staying there...)

Any trip reports for this bus to CBD yet?

Unless it has changed recently there is no bus to the CBD. There is a choice of the 901 to Broadmeadows station (operating frequently) and train from there, or other buses that can take you to Moonee Ponds, Essendon or Sunbury stations (with limited timetables).

Re: Really Skybus?

A Myki card costs $6.00. It can be bought on the bus. A 2-hour weekday trip airport to the city costs $5.92. Together it's $11.92 - so you'll recover the Myki card cost over a 1-way Skybus ticket ($17.00) on the first trip.

Also, on weekends and public holidays, it's a max of $3.50 all day.

Just remember those fares can get you anyway across Metro Melbourne as long it is completed in a 2hr period. Plus Senior Myki Passholders pay a maximum of $3.80 on weekdays and ZERO on weekends.

It's even more generous than that (up to 3 hours or 9 hours after 6pm) :) :

myki money - Public Transport Victoria

Your first touch on of the day will expire 2 hours from the next full hour after your first touch on.

However, if your first touch on occurs after 6pm, then you can travel until 3am the next morning and you will only pay a 2 hour fare.

Yep some public transport options last for a couple of hours after midnight. The trains I believe last till ~1am, Trams till ~2am and Nightrider buses till ~4am.

Just remember the last train (Craigeburn line to the City) is around ~23:30-00:00 but IIRC buses are non existent after 9pm on Sunday.

The $3.50 weekend fare is ALL DAY and zones 1 & 2 ... not just 2 hours ...

I think you can now buy them on the bus. Funny thing is, no-one complains about buying a Ezy card in SIN or Octopus card in HKG. :?:

I think you can return and 'cash in' in an Ezy card? But not a myki? But I'll stand corrected and note that you can still buy single trip tickets in SIN.

Interesting that this is all happening now when it has been reported that Paul Mees has died. Paul was a lecturer at RMIT and long time advocate for public transport in Victoria.

Sorry to hear. In reality it won't affect me day to day, but I recall his name frequently in news articles re public transport. Cancer is a cough.

Stand corrected. There is an ez-link tourist card that you can have card refunded, but it costs to use as a 1, 2 or 3 daily pass. A regular ez-link card costs $5 SGD and is not refundable. Plus you are correct you can buy single trip tickets for rail that cost more (20c-$1) than ez-link and on top of that charge a $1 fee that is refundable at vending machines on completion of journey. Buses have a (no change given) coin box next to the driver for single trips on bus.

But I love ez-link, it's a shame myki doesn't work as well. Auto re-load from my CC works perfectly and a few CC providers provider double miles for reloads too (to keep in the spirit of AFF :)), and now I use it for most taxi trips as well, it has 30c surcharge in taxis, but is much better than 10% surcharge for using CC, and easier than fiddling around with cash.

Re: Really Skybus?

Well here is the new bus stop. One for the 901 and one for the others. Just outside the QF/JQ domestic terminal.

Let's hope this move sticks. Well done MEL.

I saw the bus here last week and decided to give it a go. I did the change to train at Broadmeadows and train to Chatham via changing in the city. It worked out only about 15 mins longer than skybus + train. Much cheaper too, as it comes in as a 2 hour ticket zones 1+2 at $5.92 as compared to Skybus + 2 hour zone 1 at $16.50 (based on a 10 trip skybus ticket which I have to finish). So the extra 15mins saved $10.58. Not too shabby.

I note that 901 is every 15 mins during the weekday and every 30 mins on weekend.

Is the bus stop still at its latest position (T1), we wanted to use it for our current trip, but we land after the final 901 bus / metro trains.
