Hi all,

I have a flight tomorrow morning and just realised i forgot to book parking.

I just tried to book online and value parking says “FULL”, I’m gone for 21 days so would prefer not to pay for the expensive other options.

When it says FULL, is that only for online bookings? Or can I just drive-up and pay tomorrow?

If it really is full, anyone got some suggestions on parking?

Welcome to AFF!

That’s quite a dilemma. You could risk driving up without a booking, but if they don’t let you in you won’t have a backup and you’ll be up for big bucks in the Terminal carpark.

I don’t have a recommendation for other car parks but you might like to check out the car parks that RACV partners with — even if you’re not an RACV member you’d at least hope that RACV wouldn’t partner with an operation that’s too shonky.

The other silver lining is that the Terminal car park is “only” $23.50/day for a 3-week booking if you book online: much more expensive than Value, but actually not too bad in itself.

Have a look at offsite parking like Busy Beaver and Andrews, they usually have decent rates..

Just drive up, you'll be fine. If it was genuinely full they would open up the Extra Value Car Park but why would they for a non school holiday period. I never pre book and have never been turned away. I don't even know how they could turn you away. Once you're at the entrance it's not like you can reverse back out.

I have been there at times when they’ve had staff out the front, turning people away if they had not pre-booked. It only happens rarely, and I wouldn’t expect it to happen during a non school holiday or non public holiday weekend, but it does happen.

I have often used Melrose Parking, but they too can fill up. The other thing to say about Value parking is to take great care to pinpoint where you park. A lot of the signs showing the section numbers (B2, F8 etc) are badly faded and hard to see at night. It took me over 10 minutes to find my car the other night.

Hi all, I need to park overnight (14 hours) at Melbourne Airport for a short trip away. I’m being quoted $12 for the value carpark and $49 for terminal parking. Just wondering if the savings for the value carpark are worth having to deal with the bus etc.? I’m departing on Sunday night — not sure how busy it will be then?

I avoid that car park like the plague. It’s virtually in another suburb , bus is full often and you need to wait for another one. I value certainty and pay when I can get it. Remember MEL is just a carpark with an airport attached so the ‘value’ option keeps on growing.

We used long term a few weeks ago and it was fine. Short wait for a bus. It did get crowded but plenty of room when we got on.

I’m not sure about Sunday nights specifically but imho it’s up to you how you value your money and time, I’ve waited 0-10 minutes for the shuttle from the carpark, the ride takes <10 minutes depending on where you park and I’ve also waited 2-15 minutes at the terminal for the shuttle back.

Personally I’ve coughed up to park at the terminal for a day trip and Value for any longer.

It's always busy. However if you're coming back earlyish in the morning I would personally book terminal parking. The extra cost versus any stressors when maybe a bit tired anyways always seems good value for me: over the bridge, into the car, home. Bus is usually a little busy for value car park.

Anything longer term I recommend SkyPark btw

A tip for using the Value Park, go to the far end away from the airport. You'll easily get on the bus. As it gets closer to the airport it's often quite full and can't pick up.

And when returning to your car, you'll be dropped of first.

Yes, the bus operates (dropping off then picking up) from the far end of the car park travelling back toward the terminals
