Melbourne Christmas Day

Coming to Melbourne on Christmas eve and looking for a recommendation for lunch or dinner on Christmas day.

Booked to stay at Hilton Southbank, something close would be ideal, but comments posted on AFF are places around there are ordinary.

Recommendations please

We're also flying in on Christmas day, staying at Hilton South Wharf, they have a $250pp buffet lunch that I laughed at Im so planning on packing the usual Christmas Day 2minute noodle packets for just in case.

I'm spending it alone as well, although not "flying in" from anywhere. If it was forecast for good weather I'd suggest a picnic by the yarra or something.

ETA: I'm right near Federation Square. So not far.

34c forecast for Xmas. Good day for the beach. Problem will be which shops are open. Free transport across Victoria, so in theory you could go to Sale, Warrnambool, Swan Hill, Mildura, Echuca, Bendigo, Ballarat etc for the day.

Depends on what your tastes are and how much you're looking to spend. In no particular order some of my favourites around the CBD are;
- Chin Chin - Asian fusion
- Mamasita - Mexican
- Maha - Middle Eastern
- Meat and Wine co Southbank - Steaks
- Fonda Mexican
- Gazi - Greek Food

Some of them will probably have xmas specials so you would need to look at booking.

No disrespect to yld200, but I had a bad experience at Meat and Wine Co involving a couple of coughroaches and an extremely dismissive waitress so I've sworn off that place.

I'd go to Rockpool at Crown for a good steak. Or Rare in the CBD. City Grill Room is pretty good too; a little more casual but excellent service. coughulus Inc is great for sharing-style dishes and they don't take bookings for less than 7 so you'll need to get there a little early to find a spot.
