There was a new cheaper Platinum brought out which had less benefits, but it clearly was a failure. maybe this is the card NM is referring too.
I find your post confusing. I have the same card. it is called Platinum Edge and it's a current card. AMEX does not have any card called Platinum Credit Card anymore. There is Platinum Card, which is a much more expensive card ($1200/year).

Plus AMEX increased Platinum Edge credit card fee to $199/year this year for existing customers (For new customers it's been already $199 for a while) so I don't think your fee for is $149 (or If you haven't had your anniversary yet, you will pay $199 on your anniversary).

If you're saying they upgraded your card from Platinum Edge to Platinum card and you're still paying $149, I'd say, you're getting one hell of a deal!!!

I obtained a Platinum Edge card through a professional association and my annual fee was $99 per year which will be increased to $149 per year from December 2015. So I think NM might be referring to one of those cards.

Mate, I hope not. I also have a professional association Plat Edge for $99 and has recently increased to $149 per year. I would cash out my MR points if they do become "Gateway".

...
There was also the "Platinum Reserve" credit card ...

...... which still exists, as a companion card to the Platinum Charge card.

RickyT84 has the card I was referring to I think. I absolutely recall looking at the specs and it had less benefits like 2:1 at supermarket, 1:1 petrol no insurance and some other bits. It was a hybrid Edge. It was pulled from their offering about 1.5 years ago. Don't quote me on the specs but I'm pretty close.

I have an ordinary Edge so if it devalues to 4:3 I will definitely have to reconsider the future of this card.

I got my card back in 2010 when the card offered 3:1 at supermarket, 2:1 at petrol stations and 1:1 at everywhere else. Still get complimentary travel insurance and a free flight from VA.

It was an excellent deal back then (and still is).

Likewise. However, there was no mention of this 'enhancement' on my most recent statement which was issued earlier this week. Fingers crossed the card will still be liked to the old MR program.

As in a previous thread ,we gave American express the spear and they just keep reinforcing our decision. We use it as back up for tolls or emergency in Europe until the renewal date .An average monthly account of thousands has been zero for 6 months

I have the old 'AMP' Amex card. AMP sold it back to Amex several years ago and I have never paid any sort of membership fee since I got it in mid-1999. June statement had the nasty message about the move to Gateway. I have always moved the points over to various FF programs usually when they have had a conversion 'special' on, last doing that in the Velocity 15% bonus in May. 3. I only have about 2k points so it looks like I should finally move them over to Velocity (or maybe Virgin Atlantic and then onto IHG) and get a new card.

I have stuck with this card because I have always had very good customer service so it will be a shame to go.

Plat Rewards would be the current offering i think.

Can't find it on the site, but when creating referral links from the Edge card it is available.
