Messin' with the Scammers - what should I do next?

I have not had the fun you have yet but I am really st a loss to understand why they do it? What is the deal here? What are they scamming for? Do they think I'm going to hand over the aircraft without payment or what? Just don't get it??? I would be grateful if someone could explain

They often use stolen details to send money. Sort of the opposite to the traditional scam where you send them money to release the millions.

They don't really want the 'item'. What they'll usually do is arrange some money into your account and then 'accidentally' overpay. They'll then ask you to refund the difference once the money clears. Generally it clears and then a week or so later, the theft is discovered and it is reversed from your account as well as a big fat bounced cheque fee. They never pick up the item.

I'm surprised they would try it for such a big ticket item though. Maybe they are just trying to get your details and somehow if they get enough they can access your account.

We see this one at work. The idea is that they ask that the big ticket item be shipped via their freight forwarder. They will add the freight forwarder fee on to the payment to you. You pay the freight forwarder the money for the export. Once again the cheque from them doesn't appear or bounces. The freight forwarder is dodgy and also disappears.


Actually with the number of skydivers on this thread I feel queezy just using the term 'bounce'.

I know there is a thread on the forum "Ask the pilot", how about a thread "Ask the skydiver". The thread would specialise in take-offs, dodgy aeroplanes and landing in tight corners.
