I suspect this may be wishful thinking but here goes.

I know there is a photo I took in a square in London and I can't remember which year it was.

Is there a way to search a particular location to find photos in that area. I don't want to just search for London because there will be thousands but maybe just search for some GPS coordinates

I did some googling and I suspect it's not possible

Cheers and thanks

Do you want year, or location? If its the latter, then use Google lens, I think its called. On the normal Google search page there is an 'image button' where I think you upload a photo and it sees if it can find a match.

You could use the meta data search in a well known windows file manager?

Thanks - I want to find a photo in a particular location out of several thousand files so don't have the photo to upload to search for

Phone or camera and roughly how old.
Most phones and some modern cameras can embed GPS info, though it can be switched off.

I'm not sure if there is away to search 1000 photos on your hard drive for just ones taken in London though.

In the last 8 years. And I did say it was wishful thinking. And it could have been phone or camera

Is it still on the phone?

On an iPhone you just zoom in on the location until you find the photo. You can then see when it was taken.

Do your photos upload to a cloud service? Eg, Google, Apple, OneDrive etc? If so, searching by location is easy.

Actually, even if on your computer, I think Windows Photos app will allow you to search via location.

Wow I just learnt something new thanks. Trouble is I put most of my photos into shared folders to save space and that trick doesn’t work for shared folders

Dropbox and maybe google. I’ll have a look in Google photos tomorrow

Thanks

If it’s in a “Photo” folder it should show the meta data (date taken) in the file listing. Or right click and get the info?
But I don’t know the date I took it that’s the problem. I just know the location.

I am looking for an image of something that I know I took in Berkeley square in London. I don’t know the date or the year. Maybe I’m clutching at straws

So you can’t find or don’t know which photo on the PC it is? They’re just lumped together?

Perhaps work backwards. Which trips were you in London and scroll through photos sorted by date and look at those with time stamps during those visits. Tedious but narrows it down?
