MH Business Promo Fares

There are business promo fares on offer currently but they are not as deeply discounted. As you've observed they're about twice the deep deep discount fares of previous months. I am expecting them to be deeply discounted again in a few weeks. Maybe I'm just an optimist.

I'll wait, thanks. The full price isn't that much more.

Fair call. I just hope the deep discounting survives the restructure.

Promo fares are cheap-ish again. But require a minimum 2 day stay. Any experiences about booking and then try to change the return flight to the same day outbound leg?

You can't change them online, you have to call them, so they would have an opportunity to detect it. Also I think there is a hefty fee.
HOWEVER I have had success booking fares online which break the rules. The two day stay one in particular.

Ended up locking in at double the original price I'd seen. Really bizarre thing that the MH website has the AUD/SIN to THB conversion rate wrong. AUD is around 25 THB. Ended up booking a return trip at about 20000 THB. MH website was saying that would be AUD2000. One way was 7000 THB. But trying to get the Return was pricing at SIN$700.

So in both cases MH seemed to think it was 10 THB = 1 AUD or 1 SIN$

Airlines have a funny way of handling rates of exchange, they have their own way of setting it, and settling through IATA. On Qantas you find "Effective 01 July 2015 the IATA Rate of Exchange (ROE) for AUD = 1.296901". How accurate has that been trhough July?

Well it is a lot closer to the real rate, perhaps within a few percent. Rather than being 40% of a nominal exchange rate. But also booking a return from BKK was THB 10000-ish each way. Around $400 in AUD or S$. Booking a one way from BKK was THB 7000-ish. But booking the return from SIN was S$700, something like THB17000.

Anyway it was a frustrating experience.

Deep discounts are back - at least departing Thailand - just checked and found HKT-KUL-HKG return in J on 01/08 and 08/08 for just $505.
That's for 240 SCs which prices them at just $2.10 each.
Same fare and SC earn departing BKK.

AFAIK the really deeply discounted MH business fares are never available ex-Australia.
You have to fly into an Asian destination to access them.

Correct. BKK and DPS seem to be the best options; SIN often has decent deals too.

I got the HKG-MEL-HKG flights in J for HK$14k a few times this year but the price has gone back up to HK$20k now.

That's a good discount but not quite what I would call a deep discount. The deep discounts we were discussing inckuded DPS-KUL-HKT return in J for ~ $400 AUD and HKT-KUL-HKG return in J for > $600 AUD.

HEADS UP

The deep discounts on MH business fares are back - but seem to only be offered ex-Thailand for now.
Around $1100 in J from HKT or BKK to PER, for example. Via KUL of course.
