Here is my tale of caution with MH bookings from the MH website!

I was assisting my In-laws with booking some MH flights. Did all the usual stuff and did NOT select any optional add-ons that were offered. Saw the total at the end of the process and confirmed my purchase. Job done (or so I thought).

My In-laws checked their CC statement and found the charge for the flights (100% correct).

Then there was an additional charge for travel insurance of +$200AUD by MH (which we did NOT agree to purchase). To add insult to injury; the insurance did not cover +65yr olds which my In-laws are over-qualified.

Rang MH and they agreed to reverse the charges. Three weeks later and still waiting for the funds.

I can't help but feel that this is a greedy MH grab for cash.

So, just be careful when buying from MH!

Noted, thanks for the heads up.

Fell for that trick a few years ago when we were flying MH regularly. They had the insurance and other options in a box upper right hand corner of the web booking site. I wrote them a nastygram and they insisted I send them copies of our passports, which was another worry, but the funds were then re-imbursed rather quickly. I thought they were going to do away with that scam, but apparently not.

MH are not alone here. Lots of other carriers do it...including Virgin and Jetstar in various forms.

Yes, all very happy to refund when asked due to cooling off periods and know they are so successful at it.
