I've read the posts on MH seat selection but just thought I would share my recent issues with MH seat selection.

Part 1: MEL-KUL-KUA in Y. A few weeks out I called MH to request seats as I normally do. I am OneWorld Emerald and can usually get access to the bulk head seats for a bit more space and comfort. This time the MH operator said things have changed since July - now there is a fee for seat selection, or, you can select your seat online within 48 hours when you can check-in online.
So I waited, received the 48 hour online check-in email and...... MH online check in not possible, please contact MH.
Phoned MH - they said there is nothing they can do. At 48 hours the seat selection is handed over to the 'airport operations'. Tried MH website - no good. Tried the MH App - no good. Tried the Travel Agent - not possible. Tried again at the airport but as expected, limited selection and certainly not bulkhead or preferential seats. And to add..... luggage did not make the connection.

Part 2: KUA-KUL-SYD in Y. Thought I was onto it after the past experience. Phoned MH, paid for preferred seats, received the online check-in email, checked in online for both flights. At the airport, I found I was in my selected first flight seat but had been assigned a different seat on the KUL-SYD flight to the one I had paid for. MH advised they could do nothing. Checked again at MH First Lounge in KUL - my 'paid for seat' had been assigned to someone else!

Grrrrrrr! And you know what it's like trying to get somewhere with MH with these types of situations . All very pleasant, apologetic, inefficient, slow, but it ends up with: "there is nothing we can do". And it's probably not the most important thing in the world, but.....

Problem: MH seat selection process is farcical and now unassociated with OneWorld Status as it seemed to be before.
Solution: Not sure???? Fly J..... or drive.

Wondering if others had similar issues. Comments, suggestions welcome...

I've had absolutely no problems selecting and paying for my seats using the new MH app and this was within the past week as well with another couple of flights coming up in the next month.

That's reassuring to hear as my reported experience was very different to all other experiences and I was hoping things had not changed for the worse.
