MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

Happy today - bid $325 on Per - Kul for next Tuesday and got it. Maybe a bit more than others have been lucky enough to get. However, it still means I will only be paying $835 for a seat that currently goes for around $1,425. The extra baggage allowance will come in useful as we have been lumbered with some gear for our daughter-in-law who is already in Kl.

Hi Guys - have been forced to fly with MH126 PER-KUL 25JUN17 and return MH127 KUL-PER 14JUL17. Was asked to bid for an upgrade to J. EF showed J was about 30% booked, and Y was lucky to be the same - many seats blocked. About the same for the return leg. Have just received an email asking whether I would be prepared to increase my bid from the $250 I offered, to somemthing that 'might make me enjoy the flight a bit more'. My wife says if I get outbid, that means there are more than a dozen people less in Y, which would suggest a number of seats together would be empty. OTOH, would those with previous experience suggest a bid of $275 might be enough to get the upgrade? So far, the offer to bid more is only on the outbound leg.

In my experience with MHupgrade, the second email is a standard exhortation, seeking to increase revenue before the upgrades are decided. If your bid is reasonable for the route, then there's not much more you can do than wait. Some people get the upgrade at the minimum bid level.

The assumptions about the load in Y might be wrong if you just based it on the seatmap, unless you've actually looked at how many fare buckets are still at maximum availability (and that's still only a loose indicator until the flight is getting quite full). I can't remember for MH, but for some airlines a flight that looks wide open (based on seatmap) could even be full (just with few seats allocated at this time -- this would change once online checkin opens, but at that time the seatmap might not be viewable anymore to third parties).

What is the going rate on MEL-KUL and KUL-MEL? Contemplating a bid for July bookings.

I tried to check flight seating availability on expertflyer, and it looks like nearly all seats are blocked (not occupied).
Anyone have experience with MH, does that mean the flight is nearly fully booked hence being blocked?

See my post about ten days ago, same out of Perth. My flight came up as almost totally blocked, no idea about MHupgrade as a result. Come flight time, aircraft was totally chockers, and they had only 4 gates open for checkin. Flight time was 0220, I was given my boarding pass at 0210 after standing in the queue for two+ hours. She said 'see you at the gate' as she closed her system down and I bolted for Customs and Immigration..

Anyone got recent experience with SYD-KUL and KUL-LHR? Parents are booked in Y later this year (probably in the bottom discount fare bucket) - no idea if they'll get an upgrade invite but would like some idea of what to tell them if they do.

Like with any one-time bid auction system - put in the highest bid you're comfortable with first.
The last thing you want is to not receive the upgrade because you wanted to 'lowball and see/because loading is light'. Go all the way. Go all the way. Go all the way and put in your realistic offer from the beginning.

I recently did KUL-HKT return. On both flights, I was asked to increase my bid, on both flights, business class was half full.

My increased bid got me the upgrade to J. It was half full, and wondered why I had to increase my bid other than MH wanting more $.

Don’t increase your bid. Likely you would still get the upgrade. Have only ever done $1 over minimum amount and it’s worked. But, will always depend on loading and if others put up more.

Interesting.....
Yes that is what the earn category QFF web page says - as of today's reading.
Though in many cases, it would still be less expensive to buy Z class in the first instance.

Happy wandering

The QF site lists I class as earning but that's actually wrong. They should fix that because it is misleading!

Just received my upgrade for HKG - KUL. Bid $1340 HKD ( minimum). Paid $1345 HKD economy promo.

So cheap compared to QF J!
