I thought someone said not to post too much detail, but the prizes and give-aways included:

  • A quantity of Velocity points (VA)
  • Numerous model planes (VA, QF, CX)
  • Mouse mats (QF)
  • Richard Branson book (VA - one for every attendee)
  • Pens and notepads (QF - one for every attendee)

Also there were some very generous KK gifts.

Thank you to whoever provided the bottle of wine I scored, I shall look forward to consuming that very much.

Whatever happened to the $10 limit on KK gifts? ;)

Please share. I may need to know how to sex a prawn one day

I was there and actually asked the question on how it was done. Why? Because of the comment that the female (prawns) taste better. It was absolutely hilarious to watch especially when she was looking for a male prawn to show us its bits. As for showing us how prawns 'did it' well, what can I say? You had to be there.

Sad.

Not a good note for this thread to finish. I can only imagine the effort you put in organising this get together.

I can only agree whole-heartedly with this comment.

MunitalP, I hope you will reconcider, If you feel you cannot, than I'd like to say it was fabulous to meet you and Mrs munitalP, both Lisa and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening (thanks also to all the AFFers who attended, you lot really made it far more special than any meal ever could) and I wish you the very best with the future. I can only imagine the personal effort undertaken to achieve that event and I for one am very pleased you went to such trouble for us lot........I know without doubt I could never do anything even remotely close. Thank you.

For the two I bought (as if Mr Katie ever goes present shopping for anyone other than me!), I stuck to $10, pretty much to the cent. Oz_Mrk got one, and I did see the recipient of the other, but I didn't get to meet that person. I know who they were sitting next to, though. ;) Both of mine were travel themed, and useful. Well, if you use that stuff and don't have it already!!

My introvert came out with so many new people in the room. A few other handles I didn't manage to put to real names & faces :(

BTW I'm curious about the balcony pics. Were you all trying to re-enact that Kate Winslet scene from Titanic? :p

munitalP told us to pretend to be falling over the balcony. I think only a few were successful in achieveing that look!

A bit of column A, and a bit of faking falling off the edge (in typical Schoolies fashion... :p)

Then again, it was munitalP's idea ;) :p

Well your look certainly didn't scream, "Introvert here!" :p

- I am surprised you found the fresh prawns frozen, deeply surprised.

I really do wish to add my impression from one of my uncles who has been a fisherman in Queensland for as long as I can remember (and noting that my grandfather, his father, was also a fisherman), including commercial prawn fishing. Anyway, my impression is that all (the vast majority of) prawns are cooked and frozen on the boat before they even get onshore. Certainly, he has sourced some magnificent prawns for our christmas dinners that have been frozen on the boat and have come to us direct from the boat. So anyway, I would be surprised if there was any validity to any criticism about the quality of prawns due to being frozen.

Otherwise, I would love to express my opinion about the situation. But I'm not really allowed to have and express an opinion. I guess instead we can have some approved opinions that do not, in any way, represent my view. Or not......

Is that what it was............I thought you were all partaking in a sequential JQ star jump!!!!!!!

Oh is that all?

I thought they were mug shots of those who were to be cut off from the bar

......

I think the reference to some of the prawns still being frozen and also that some of the prawns weren't great, were two separate issues.

I also was under the impression that (cooked) prawns are all cooked and snap frozen while still at sea so I don't think there are any problems with frozen prawns. I just think they shouldn't still be frozen when served. Being tasteless is another issue. A Seafood Buffet should at least have a sauce. It takes less than 2 minutes to make a good one and even a Masterfoods coughtail Sauce can be jooshied up with a bit of Brandy, Tabasco and cream.

Also..I seem to recall someone from DPI (about 25 years ago) stating that Prawns can be frozen and defrosted 4 or 5 times without reducing the taste or texture too much. I've also frozen Live Oysters with very little loss in quality or flavour.

Being an expert on this issue, without actually eating those gross things, you're right.

When they catch them at sea, they will be cooked in salt water, then snap frozen. Alternative is to get "green" prawns, which are straight from the ocean, then snap frozen, and I don't think you'd want to eat them raw ;)

I THINK you can defrost cooked prawns a couple times Ok - tho probably not great for quality. In either case, you don't want to be eating them frozen, just cold!
