Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

QF9 nonstop to LHR looks set to resume tomorrow. If there was any planned extension to the rerouting then Qantas would have made a decision days ago.

Iran’s supposed attack on Israel has turned from a threat into a mirage. It may not even happen. It makes sense for Qantas to resume flights. Most of the other airlines using the Iran/Iraq airspace have resumed their flights over this airspace.

Strange -- because the reason for the diversion (the Mideast conflict) hasn't abated.

If diversions were in place because of mid east conflict no-one would have been flying over the region, well, since airplanes were invented.

Aren’t these sorts of things are done usually in response to specific intelligence of a threat?

I have been keeping an eye on flights as the situation in the Middle East deteriorates.

QF9 has been heading towards DXB before heading west. At CAI it is turning back to the north-west on to LHR. So it looks like it is able to avoid the trouble spot without stopping in SIN.

I saw a news story where QF said the winds had been favourable and if it continues they will keep flying direct

QF9 for the 30th showing as direct! Not sure if I am happy about that now that I know I am not getting an upgrade 🤦‍♂️

Just posted on ABC website. Not sure if this will impact the direct flights vs one stop.

"The European Commission and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) warned airlines today to avoid Lebanese and Israeli airspace for the coming month.

The aviation authority's statement described "an overall intensification of air strikes and degradation in the security situation" in the region and issued the official recommendation "not to operate within the airspaces of Lebanon and Israel at all flight levels" provisionally until October 31, when it will reassess the situation."

No, QF9 has been flying further north, over Iraq and eastern Syria into Turkey.

What do you guys think about the broader implications about losing access to Russian as well as ME airspace within the context of Qantas' project sunrise? It will significantly limit them route-planning wise, and will at the very least disallow them some efficiencies depending on weather, and at worst perhaps put a roadblock on that entire strategy.

I hope you have a safe trip too, this is just personal opinion - I fear it will be worse by then, as Israel wants complete ending with their enemies. I hope I am wrong and it is calmed down by then too!
