Great TR, I have a BKK-HKG return coming up in J so very timely. Agree on the livery, one of my favs

Ok just remember to use a OW lounge in BKK as RJ use the Thai business lounge which was very busy when we were there (but may be do a lounge hop as we've done just for 'fun' - sad I know). The BA/QF Flounge seemed to be closer to the RJ boarding gate as well. Plus we've found the BA/QF lounger quieter and nicer bathroom / shower facilities.

If you haven't flown RJ before, just keep in mind that their AMM based crew can be very 'cool' with their service interaction (but very efficient). I've found the local Thai crew to be more 'warm'.

Agreed. Only problem is that neither QF lounge in BKK is open when the RJ flight to HKG departs now. Actually, I think they open around the scheduled departure time. The Thai lounge may be the best option unfortunately...

The Cathay lounge is a few doors up. Wonder if that would be an option (subject to Cathay staff being 'picky').

It should be open, but I found the Cathay lounge pretty basic, so it is probably a toss up between Cathay and Thai. But you're right...Cathay is at least close to the gate RJ would be leaving from.

Just had a look at the 28 Deg MC statement ... it was A$901.17 all up. I believe it was a promo / discount business class but not 100% sure now.
But it posted as full SCs which is what always matters.

Less than A$1,000 for a ticket to Europe in J is amazing value. Ironically you'd probably spend the same amount getting ot BKK for the QF SYD-BKK service; I wonder if there might be options for more SCs to use MH to KUL and then use the RJ KUL-BKK tag flight first.

How far in advance did you book to get the special? I ask because the Istanbul fare in J mentioned was $2,000.

thanks for the tip - the QF/BA lounge is the best OW option in BKK (CX is pretty pokey and limited). was thinking to check out Thai or even Louis'
