Thanks for posting - definitely interesting to read about the AY product.

Lounge tip ... as you exit passport control on the way in, make an instant hard left and follow the path. It will take you to the back entrance to the Wing lounge. If you go down to near gate 2 to the official entrance it is a long walk. This will save you 15 mins and more time for bubbles. And again, we use the back entrance for our exit.

Enjoy the travels. It is what you make of it.

Wasn't even aware of that 'official' entrance :) Always made the hard left bee-line. I guess my lounge / Champagne antenna is finely tuned. You didn't mention the magic word 'cabana' wrt The Wing showers - a complete shower / bath / lounge suite all to one-self (+/- a friend).

AY product I find very good for the price - especially when they have promotions on.

Nothing wrong with Y. I've flown it plenty of times, but J is always a nice treat.

Excellent photos and text. The train photos were the highlight. I have been to Finland but did not feast on reindeer: I must have missed something special.

Of those of us who directly pay for our travel and are not running a small business so there is no possible tax deduction, 85 per cent plus must travel Y.

Much as I love the extra room in a typical J class (although it's always inferior to a train's sleeping berth by a considerable margin), I cannot justify the additional expense and am one of many who prefer to either save the cash, or spend a bit of it while on the ground - perhaps in upgrading to a rail sleeping berth across Europe.

Thank you for posting this trip report. After reading it we have decided to book our flights to Europe in August - September with Finnair. Rang and booked flights today plus flights within Europe for a lot less than flying to Europe with Qantas direct. We are flying Qantas to & from HKG so find that hard to believe !!!

Once again, thank you

jojen

Thanks for your kind words. I am surprised at the amount of planning required to get all the photos (especially when loaded with Champagne) and then trying to write the report.

Anyways, I hope your trip goes well. Nothing wrong with Y. I've flown it plenty of times, but J is always a nice treat. So just make sure along the way you use the lounges as your "J" experience i.e drink and eat in the lounge. Then when in your Y seat, you'll be more mellow and comfortable.

The HKG CX Wing is very nice. Especially if you want a shower (just have one for the heck of it). And a shower always makes you feel better and a bit more special. Then hit the restaurant (it has a quick buffet or an al la cart menu) for a fill up and go and relax with some bubbles.

Thanks for the tip, definitely looking forward to it.
