Slight dilemma guys regarding my Nan run. The QF code share (FJ metal) arrival schedule has changed, getting me into Syd now at 1240 (instead of 1120); on the same ticket, I then fly Syd-Mel, and then Mel-Bne. I have a separate ticket to fly Bne-Syd (home) that night on the last flight, leaving Bne at 1915. Ideally, I would like to catch the 1400 flight Syd-Mel as opposed to the later 1430 one to build in some leeway time in both Mel and Bne.

As I'm travelling J with carryon only, I think I can get myself from Syd Int (arr 1240) to Syd Dom (dep 1400) assuming the Air Pacific flight arrives on time. Is it usually on time? ...and am I within MCT? O/wise I will have to catch the 1430 Syd-Mel flight which leaves a lot less leeway time in Mel and Bne between flights.

Depending on what customs and immigration decide to do on the day, but you should be okay with carry on. In December I arrived from SFO on QF74 with carry on only, and within an hour I was boarding the ferry at Circular Quay for Manly. I might have said it before, but I will never check luggage again for this same reason.

Don't forget there is a quick transfer Sydney from International to Domestic via the train.

The only trick is to turn the correct way when you go through the Domestic train station barriers and up the escalators:

. if QF, then turn right
. if Jetstar, then turn left.

At them time of day the Qantas "Seamless" transfer Bus departs every 20 minutes.

To catch the 2pm flight and you'd need to be on the 1:40pm bus as the latest.

IME, this is achievable at that time of day if you disembark from your international flight by ~1:10pm.

Premium desk says I can't be booked on the 2pm flight as it is less than MCT at Sydney which is 90 minutes, so have to be booked on the 230pm flight.. Best bet is to arrive ASAP and ask to be put on the earlier (2pm) flight:mad::(

Exactly! Those people at the transfer desk have a lot of ability to rebook passengers on same-day flights (if not sold out).
