MNL-BNE-MNL Reliability with PR

Over the past few weeks I've been watching the reliability of PR221/PR222 the Philippines Airlines service to Brisbane.

As of now, in the past 7 days, Flightaware is saying there was one day completely cancelled and another day > one hour late. The weeks prior there were usually two days of cancelled flights on a week plus flights that were > 2-3 hours late.

I do enjoy the convenience of the direct flight and afternoon arrival of the PR service. The alternatives are QF 7pm arrival or SQ 11pm arrivals.

I'm reluctant to pay the higher price and commit to a PR service if there is such a weighted chance of cancellation or PR see this as a low priority route.

Anyone got any insight into what is happening with this service? Is it lack of aircraft availability or lack of demand on this service

A321neo fleet constraints. Like a lot of airlines, they’re being hit with the Pratt Whitney engine issues.

They’ve had one A321neo stuck in Perth since the end of September. A replacement engine only just arrived this week. 2 of their other A321neos haven’t flown since February and April respectively.

A330s and 777s have been subbed in on their Manila-Brisbane flights quite a lot recently to compensate for the delays and cancellations.

Ok, that makes sense. I can see on the days after a recent cancellation they had the larger aircraft the following two days.
