Modify existing velocity international multi-city booking

I have a velocity multi-city booking, DOM VA and 2 legs of INTL QR. The VA and first QR leg are booked as connecting and there's a layover >24 hours in Doha between the 2nd and 3rd leg. I want to change the 3rd leg to one that's <24 hours after arriving in Doha to reduce the number of points paid.

When I phoned I was told it's not possible to modify the booking as it's a connecting flight. Should it be possible? Not sure if I need to hucb.

I've been pretty consistently told by VA staff that voluntary changes can't be made to ticketed award bookings - the booking would have to be cancelled and rebooked, but you then risk the seats you've previously held not being released back into the inventory.

Also, the fact that you can see inventory for an earlier, <24 hour flight, for CCC-DDD does not necessarily mean you'd be able to book it from AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD as a one way connecting fare with a lower points requirement - there are complex rules around seat availability that determine this - flying CCC-DDD more than 24 hours later may have actually worked in your favour originally in getting you the availability.

Thanks, cancelling and rebooking the ticket matches what they told me. I don't want to risk the seats not being released back

I didn't realise they might restrict which flights could be made connecting, that's good to know. I was kind of surprised they were able to make my SYD-MEL VA flight connect through to the MEL-DOH flight
