Moving to Sabre?

DJ - Virgin Australia, Pacific Blue, Polynesian Blue use Navitaire.
VA - VAustralia use Amadeus

Still going to Sabre when they already have the Amadeus license is a bit crazy?

Yes, that's it.

I've never understood why VA needed a separate booking system compared to DJ.

Too expensive for domestic operations, the VA arm needed better ta and interline connections etc.

Good to see them standardizing.

From what I have found on the internet, it looks like Virgin America and Atlantic also use Sabre.

IIRC Virgin America only switched to Sabre very recently. They did it over the weekend with little disruption.

There was some disruption - you couldn't make a booking for 3 days! I think the outage actually went for a bit longer than planned?

You are exactly right, there has been an uproar on Facebook about it

Maybe I should have read more than the press report Virgin America put out then.

Lets hope the migration across goes smoothly and they don't completely screw it up!

You mean unlike last time? :p

I guess another way to look at this is that by using a different system to QF, if Amadeus goes down, as has happened in the past, they’re in a better position to pick up the slack, and vice versa. However if they were both using the same system Australian air travel might ground to a halt in an IT disruption.
