A WP, flying today YNT-PVG-HKG on MU on a MU ticket with my QFF number in the booking. Was given lounge access by MU in YNT this morning, but denied in Shanghai - staff at the lounge entry desk told me that as a Qantas WP I get access to the lounges within mainland China when doing domestic flights, and I also get lounge access for international flights e.g. Singapore - but not for flights to HKG.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Is it right?

Are you able to post a link to that? It would seem to suggest that I should have access judging by "Eligible customers cab also access China Eastern lounges throughout Mainland China when flying with China Eastern"
Here's a better one: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/partners/china-eastern.html

Eligibility

Disclaimer:± When you travel with China Eastern on a Domestic flight within Mainland China, or an International flight between Mainland China and Australia, be sure to have your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card with you to receive access for you and one guest to China Eastern Lounges throughout Mainland China, when you and your guest are flying together with Qantas or China Eastern. Show your Qantas card at the lounge. Mainland China Lounges are located at Wuhan, Xianyang, Nanchang, Taiyuan, Chengdu, Kunming, Lanzhou, Beijing, Pu Dong, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi, Hangzhou and Ningbo.

OK according to that, no lounge access for PVG-HKG flights then!

But then in that link you posted it also says "Eligible customers cab also access China Eastern lounges throughout Mainland China when flying with China Eastern"
"... flying with China Eastern" means little in this context. By the indicated web pages it should be a Qantas Codeshare flight. i.e. QF*MU.

From the table posted by @Brettmcg :

"Benefits included for Qantas codeshare services operated by China Eastern"

A "Qantas Ticket starts with 081-

A Qantas Codeshare (or Marketed) flight number starts with QF.

If the booked flight number starts with MU then those pages do not indicate any status based lounge access is available for Qantas Elite passengers.

I just flicked a complaint into QF with the link and quoted the line that says "Eligible customers can also access China Eastern lounges throughout Mainland China, when flying with China Eastern." - will see what they come back with. By the interpretation that you are suggesting then I shouldn't have been given lounge access at YNT this morning either as that was just an MU domestic flight (no QF codeshare), but I just turned up to the lounge and they scanned my boarding pass and it gave them the green light and let him in electronic beep.

As per @markis10's, practice may exceed published.

Assuming flights can be MU marketed for such access then I presume Qantas codeshare with MU on SIN and Oz routes in their agreement, but not HKG, hence the specifics.

I fly semi-regularly with MU within Mainland China for precisely this reason. Have never once had to be on a QF codeshare domestically to access their lounges, which, by the way, are mostly glorified food courts.
