Muscat in J

I had a lovely couple of glasses of the Muscat on board QF108 (or should that be 1 0 late?) in J early Monday morning after the CSM talked me into it and forgot to get the name of it. When I look at the online wine list none of them ring a bell. Does anyone happen to know what they are serving at the mo as I want to grab a bottle?

I did think the same thing myself while typing it in but thought maybe such a challenge would get all the regulars excited and I might get a response. So far it hasnt worked!

From my experience it'll be the Morris old premium muscat... see this link for a pic... Morris Old Premium Muscat 500ml
THere is also a great tokay version ( i think they're both brilliant!) which is often served in first (QF), they cost the same so i'm not sure why one in J and and the other in F.

Is that the one?

Hmm, I thought instantly of an alcoholic drink. Seems consistent with these forums as well

hmm - neither the Morris or the Tokay ring a bell and these are what was in the wine list as well.

It was pretty dark and I had my headphones on (and Deja Vu blasting away on AVOD) but I could of sworn he said Taylors.

I cant find anything like it on the net so maybe it was one of these and I was hearing things.

In F it is the Morris Rutherglen Old Liqueur Muscat and Tokay. In J it is the Morris Rutherglen Liqueur Muscat. All three are very good examples of fortified wines. I particularly like the Muscats - like drinking liquid fruitcake .

I am confident it would have been the Morris, and it is always good, as stated by NM above (Rutherglen is a great region for fortifieds). Taylors are not well known as muscat producers. The Taylors mention would have been a riesling, they often have a Taylors riesling in J (also very good, Clare is a great region for riesling).

I would have thought QF more likely to be serving a Taylor red wine in J. Certainly not at the back of the plan.

In J the Muscat is Seppelt DP63 Rutherglen Muscat available along with some excellent Sherry's in the range for a song (Dan Murphy's seem to have them all). I beleive this wine, made from decades old base material sells for around $20 which is laughable.

In terms of quality vs price these should sell fro hundreds of dollars, but fortunately Australian fortifieds remain beneath the radar - but dont hang about Robert Parker and other International critics have recently discovered them and are trumpeting their praises.

The beauty of Ruethrglen fortifieds is that there are all sorts of 'house' styles all of which are worthy and interesting. The Morris style is the richer more moutfilling, whereas others are nutty and spirity.

Personally, I'm all for Noble One's....

On occasion Taylor's St Andrews Cab or Shiraz in J international, Taylo's Cab (with some age) in J dom and Taylors Promised Land in 187ml Economy Cab/Merlot or Cab/Shiraz, all sound wines, the promised land even took out a trophy in Decanter World Wine Awards last year (terrific value).

Definitely no Taylors Muscat.

Actually this was replaced in J with Seppelt DP 63. Wine writer Tim White wrote an article where he reckons drinking this was one of his finest airline drinking experiences. I agree. Terrific with some blue cheese and walnut and prune log.
