Need a recommendation for a car hire place in LA. A Mustang convertable needed for 4 or 5 days.
Thanks

I know Hertz and others should have them on fleet at LAX.

Beware, it's never guaranteed to be that vehicle type when you show up, you could end up with a Chrysler Sebring Convertable :/

Avis also have Mustang convertibles - approx. US$750 for 5 days incl. LDW and ALI/SLI and all fees and taxes for a couple of dates I checked (one in early March and one in early June). It does say Mustang or similar - not sure what the similar is for Avis.

Hertz is a similar price for a Mustang or Sebring convertible for the same dates. Hertz used to allow you to book a Mustang convertible as part of their fun collection, which guaranteed you the Mustang, though it was more expensive. Unfortunately it seems they don't have this option anymore.

You can ask both Avis and Hertz to put a note in your booking saying you'd prefer a mustang, but they won't guarantee it.

I believe the other major companies also have mustangs. Not sure of price, details.

Mmm. This really annoys me about local car hire companies too. Its always 'or similar'. I only seem to rarely get the car I want, I seem destined to get the 'or similar' which is always, 100% of the time a step-down from the car you wanted and paid for.

Its a great big cop-out from the companies involved I reckon. You only need buy one of the cars folks actually want to drive and a pile of other rubbish which you, yourself as the operating company deem to be 'similar'.

Anyone have any experience in refusing a pre-booking because they didn't get the right car? I assume the company will try and charge you anyway, similar to a no-show. Wonder if you could successfully backcharge the CC transaction?

If you end up with "or Similar " tell them you'll be paying their requested rate OR SIMILAR..... It really sucks particularly if your reason for booking is tomdrive a particular car..... Good luck with the Mustang... Where do you plan to cruise?

Wish it was for me. A friend of mine and wife going to California for 2 weeks and wants to rent a Mustang.

He probably will dive LA to SF to Vegas to LA, time permitting.

Hertz do still have Mustangs in their Fun collection which guarantees the car type - I saw one on there the other day when I was making a booking.

However I'd recommend the Chevy Camaro (unless you specifically wanted a convertible) - much nicer to drive than the Mustang. There is a Camaro convertible coming out, but not sure if it's available as a rental yet.

Nationalcar also have Mustangs, and if you sign up with the Emerald Club, they let you choose your car from whatever is available. So whilst they don't guarantee a particular car, you go to the aisle that contains your booked type, and choose which car you want! There will usually be Mustangs there in LA anyway - they're a dime a dozen!

Hired a Mustang in LA - went through arguscarhire.com which ended up being Dollar.

Upon arrival to the LAX Dollar lot (with my fingers well and truly crossed) I was pleasantly surprised to find I had the choice of around 15 convertible mustangs (went for black with tan leather/pleather interior).

3 days rental came to $226USD with all taxes and insurance paid - no extra payments were requested at the rental counter.

But yeah I’m with pshepvic – honestly the Camaro is a much better thing.... our hire came to $117 USD per day (Hertz - Las Vegas) – V8 and yeah, way more fun that the Stang.
