My first non-commercial flight

I've been on the C-130 a few times. My first flight I was allowed in the coughpit for landing on a flight from Richmond to Darwin.

So far I've avoided being in the dangerous goods kit check. Starts touching wood.

Scored the jump seat on a RAAF B707 from Fairbairn to Laverton in 1986 as part of Australian Defence Force Academy single service training (RAAF Officer Cadet). Now Laverton is just suburban housing and think the aircraft was the one which crashed off East Sale a few years later. Lots of jollies in Hercs, Caribous, Hueys, Orions but no fast jets unfortunately. Does non-commercial seating in a commercial flight count? Commuting between SYD and BNE for 8 years with Virgin meant a whole bunch of jump seats - never got tired of the view of Sydney on the approach to 16L.

Only once. A tiny Cessna..I think 4 seats that my Uncle had in Gippsland....I was in my early teen's and wasn't scared at all. These days there is no way I'd get in one

ADFA in the 80's? You must have been one of the first to go through!

Yes, in fact my year was the first intake at ADFA (1986). Our senior years came across from Duntroon, Creswell and Point Cook. Mostly Duntroon so we joked about being in the tri-service army.

My first non commercial flight was in a RAAF Dakota, my most exciting was in a Mirage during a display and the best do what ever was in the F-111 simulator.
