My shortest trip ever

There's a trick in that every sector/booking is independant and separate.

We've seen similar on the Tiger show, where the first segment of a flight (e.g. ADL to Gold coast via Sydney) is late, so misses the connection. Tiger's view is tough luck since the tickets are separate, not sold as a connecting flight. You're then up for paying for a transfer to the next available flight - which they sell as them being generous since the tickets are independant, yada yada yada.

That's true of transit flights - i.e. multicity flights. But they really issue a return as 2 separate bookings?

$120 a night for a Sydney Hotel? Tell them they're dreaming.

The hotel I stay at during the week is $98 a night and is quite decent. Certainly much better than the Formula 1 Kings Cross that I used once for $78 a night. Of course, it isn't right there at the airport, but Oxford St isn't that far away.

VirginBlue do the same. I learned that when I did my BNE SYD same day return back on Jul 29.

Have been to a F1 hotel once, after a boozy night out. Didn't want this particular lady to come back to my house so used the wonderful late night credit card check-in at the Melbourne airport F1.....

 to say the least

Yes, they have a purpose.

OK just to continue my "trip", I have rebooked my SYD-ADL return trip (going late Fri and come back late Sun) to early November. This time on Flying Kangaroo instead. I managed to used my Ultimate Amex free flight entitlements (worth $360, which is how much I would have to pay if buy in cash), which is great. Also redeemed 1 way SYD-ADL using my almost expiring 15K Asia miles, and 1 way ADL-SYD using 12K Qantas FF points awards for my better half. Total tax was only $35 which is great. So at the end I got $720 worth of tickets for $35 + 12K QF miles + 15K AsiaMiles (expiring anyway).

Hopefully this upcoming trip will be a better experience than Tiger ....

Of course, I have sent the refund forms to Tiger, and the waiting begins ....

Sad to hear your experience. Another reason for me to avoid this poor excuse of an airline at all costs.

Of course, under Murphy's Law, my annual TID insurance expired in August....
Don't want to mess around with Murphy. :-|

lol.... I hear the forumle1 rooms are just gorgeous
Rooms look good to me. Of course if you want to host a coughtail party then you may have some issues.

Never been there. What are they like? Small clean and functional?

They are very popular with the crowd that are after an hour or so of use, there is usually better options/quality at or near the same price in the vicinity at most locations. The F1 in coffs has a pool, spending 7 days there with a family would make a good last prize in any competition IMHO.

So, just to complete my trip which was cut short by Tiger originally, here it is take 2:

Last Friday we had SYD-ADL 6:30pm on the Flying Kangaroo instead. This time OLCIing, we got originally assigned 29A/29B (same seat as my previous Qantas flight in Feb, unbelievable!!!), sequence 16/17. This time though, QF is "generous enough" to open up 28E/F so we picked that one instead. Afterall it is better to sit further away from toilets. Our booking class is O/X. One ticket was from Amex, and the others are Classic Award seat.

Anyway we got there quite early at about 5pm, since we are QF NB thus we went to QF food court and had Hungry Jacks instead, given my past experience with QF flight I want to eat my own food before boarding.

This time boarding there were no flight cancellations (hurray!) and no engine troubles (hurray again, especially what happened to A380/B747s!). It was a full flight. The flight took off without any hiccups, and soon we were served food (Thai Chicken curry with rice) which taste much better than my last trip. I also had a James Squire which was great. I killed some time listening to on-board music. The cheese/cracker combo is good too. The flight was generally uneventful and we landed in ADL at 8pm which was 15 minutes early. Of course, since we were near the end we waited for another 5 minutes before just about everyone deplaned before our turn.

On Sunday, we had ADL-SYD on QF774 which leaves at 6:50pm. Again, OLCIing seq 18/19) we got 25A/B, since this is older aircraft, it ended up being the last row again!!!! Again, the flight was full.

Interestingly I bumped into an acquaintance of mine who was sitting one row before me, and he asked me since I don't have any check-in luggage, why not fly JQ or TT instead? Then I told him my story ..... He said he has so far have no problems with TT yet .....

Again the flight took off without issues, soon we were served beef balls pasta which actually tastes quite good. This time though I had ginger ale instead of James Squire since I would need to drive home from SYD (on rental). I actually think their food has gone better, maybe because the economy is improving. Lucky on Sunday there was no serious storms at SYD so we landed 10 minutes early (9:05pm) and all is well again.

So, it was good to finish my trip which was delayed by Tiger. I ended up seeing my families and friends and had a great time. The weather in ADL was great which really helped.

Will I try to fly Tiger again? Well definitely not until my memory fades :p But I had to say that food in QF domestic is better now than earlier this year, but given as QF NB, I would expect to be seated at last row everytime. My next trip to ADL will be on DJ instead (redeemed using the Platinum Edge Amex) ....

Good to hear that you were able to complete the trip and had a much better experience on QF.

I actually think their food has gone better, maybe because the economy is improving.
I wish QF would stop serving curries on domestic flights.
