What are the changes in the New Gen Q400? (i am another big fan of this aircraft it strikes me a being very reliable, not sure why some operators experienced problems it whereas we have not?)

Upgraded cabin interiors and larger overhead lockers.

Laudable goals, certainly cant see you getting barred here. Still plenty of 734's around, has been a good workhorse for QF.

Thanks! I was expecting to get flamed for #1 :p

First next gen Q400 rocks up in Feb. Currently 7 due to arrive to bolster the QF Link fleet.

Main change is something to do with the fuselage being better insulated from both vibration and noise from the props (interesting given the standard Q400's are pretty quiet). Some aircraft nerd will probably jump in and elaborate more technically ;)

Interior wise - bigger overhead lockers and minor seating / furnishing upgrades. Not sure if this means the end of premium hand baggage perhaps on the next gen Q400 flights...

PS Interestingly DJ are sniffing round Bombadier after the failure of the E jets to make money on the regional routes. Rex better watch out ;)

Nah, some around here hate the 734 but one of my best J experiences was in 1F on a 734 (yes I have limited experience of J). They seem to be appearing on the ADL-SYD route a lot for 2011. (even replacing a 767 flight that I booked :(). So if you have trouble finding any flights when the time comes check that route ;)

Retain QFF Platinum(Oct) and Air NZ Gold Elite (June).

I already have 90% of the bookings/travel for the former and 105% for the latter.

I have no inclination for PG as SWMBO already has bookings in place to retain SG in her own right.

Any additional travel beyond QF WP will go exercising my comped Velocity Gold and a close eye will be kept on the DJ/NZ relationship.

Tick off some bucket list items (some of which were inspired by some trip reports on here)

Retain status in the programs I currently have status in. Go up a level if some opportunities do so so arise.

1. Retain Qantas Platinum.
2. Fly less than 100,000 kms this year.
3. Fly a few new airlines and travel through some new airports.
4. Go to Prague. (Its a new airport served by different airlines) :p
5. Fly on the last Pacific Blue flight before they rebrand everything into one airline.
6. Get fit and loose weight.  Will complete in the Sydney City To Surf, so it is travel related.

My goals are pretty simple and the first one will probably get me barred from AFF ;)

1) Reduce my travel, focus on quality rather than quantity.

I completely missed your first goal, as one of my goals for this year is to fly less than last year,

my main goal is to travel at least 100K km bis , i'd be happy with that ;)

Did that last year, great fun but not so much fun for the bank balance.

Well 2010 was my biggest ever year of flying with 66 flights over 28 trips and about 99,100km traveled..

You couldn't squeeze in another round trip somewhere to get above the 100k.

My goal is to try a few new airlines and scale back non-essential travel.

Very similar to my goals.

My major aim is LTP with Aadvantage.
Requalify mrsdrron as WP.
Hopefully requalify SPG Plat-Knee replacement mid year is going to slow things down.May have to do a mattress run at Noosa.

Not quite travel goals but trying to keep 2011 goals as simple as possible

  • Stay healthy throughout the year (not a good start to the year already but hopefully things will improve) as 2010 was one of my worst years on record
  • Lose more weight and get down below 100kgs for the first time in ~9 years
  • Keep alcohol intake to a minimum (I have only had 2 1/2 beers since returning from Thailand 14 days ago and I do not really crave it anymore)
  • Hopefully still empoyed by year end or better still find a job in another state or even New Zealand
  • Maintain QF Platinum status for 2012 from 1 June 2011
  • Reach 100 sectors (only managed 98 last year)
  • Avoid flights on JQ and TT at all costs

My goal is to spend more time at home with the family.

+1. With my first kid only a few days away I'm certainly planning to have a light travel year this year. Will still make WP but home time will be the priority for 2011.

2010 was my biggest year ever also. 144 flights (I spent today at flightmemory.com), 182,000 kms and 2520 QF SCs. Mostly work flights but 3 personal international trips.

2010 was also my most traveled year. Ticked over my 1,000,000th BIS kilometer (after almost 5 years steady work travel) and flew exactly 150 sectors for 163,511 BIS miles. This year however that will all rock back and I'll be handing over the work travel to someone else.

I'm certainly gonna miss Carol's flat whites in the T3 SYD J lounge... :(

Who is "we", are you forgetting the two groundings of the Q400 since their introduction in 2008 by QF, including the longer lasting one that had F100s into ROK up until amphibians were required a few weeks ago :D

PS Interestingly DJ are sniffing round Bombadier after the failure of the E jets to make money on the regional routes. Rex better watch out ;)

I think you will find that Bombadier don't have the delivery slots available and in fact ATR will be supplying the aircraft with a J cabin, ATR have a large number of undisclosed orders for their 600 series variants.

As for my goals, get LTG knocked over, re-qualify for DJ gold and work out how I am going to get 5 different brands of ICHG hotels so I can crack my case and get 50K of QFF points with Intercontinental without going overseas to do it ;).

Wow, can't even come close to a lot of people's goals here...

1) Make it to SG for the first time, and as a part of this do my first SC runs, likely to be PER-BNE-TSV to visit friends for dinner before flying back...

2) Visit at least 3 countries that I have never been to before.

3) Fly Air Koryo, official state-owned airline of North Korea

4) Survive flying Air Koryo, which has all its fleet bar two Tupolevs blacklisted in the EU.

5) Attend at least 4 Formula One Grands Prix (aiming for 9...)

6) Not have to sell any body parts to fund the above.
