My Trip - Few Questions

Couple more Q's if you dont mind.... :D

1. As QPs are in the airport, is leaving bags unattended in QP an issue - security wise? For example going to the loo/shower or getting food/drink... take everything with or leave it on your seat? The few times I've used QP I've left stuff on my seat but for no longer than a minute.

2. Anyone ever had an issue with theft in a QP with carry on bags, personal items left unattended? (Mostly out of curiosity) I assume since lounges tend not to attract shifty types that often it's not much of an issue...but you never know!

3. Does the QP at HKG have shower facilities available for the QF29 stopover? Likewise is it possible to shower in the BA lounge T4 at LHR? (I have a connection LHR-GVA with 3 hour wait). Also, may seem a pretty silly thing to ask but any tips for using showers in airline lounges? I mean I can't take passport/documents into the shower with me...safe to use?

4. Any other tips for lounge use???
Harpoon,

There is a current thread around about items going missing from QP's. I think you would be unlucky however It's not a great risk to take.

Yes the QP in HKG has showers. There is room in the showeres for personal effects.

The Cathay lounges in HK are much better than the QF/BA lounge however you would need to be in J or be QF Gold or above to qualify.

Great thanks for the responses. I'll be in economy so it's good old QP for me :) But glad to hear I can shower in HKG.

Any idea on T4 at LHR?

All these showers are individual rooms; you can take your stuff in with you.

You may need to be quick to get a shower in HKG; there's likely to be a few J/F pax in front of you - in any case, don't waste time in getting there.

Both T4 terraces have showers; although never used them myself. (Only those in the Arrivals lounge).

Yeah in HKG I realise I may need to rush for a shower or get in some sort of queue. But either way it'll be worth it. If I miss out, so be it.

As for LHR - there's 2 BA lounges? So is one a F only and one for the rest?

No, T4 is huge so there are two Terraces (the BA name for normal) lounges, one at each end of T4.

Don't forget that depending on the exact timing of your trip they migth be in the middle of the switch to T5 and T3 - at the very least I think T4 is being run down already.

You mean T4 lounges are closed?

No, more like maintenance is being kept to a minimum. T4 will be closed and rebuilt early next year.

Actually on further research, the T4 Pavillion (and associated Concorde Room, First, Terraces lounges, Business Centre and Elemis Spa will close on 30 April). The T4 arrivals lounge will be kept open for a couple of hours for the SYD/BKK/SIN arrivals.

The existing T4 Gate 1 lounge shall remain open until BA's final flight leaves T4 and the final routes (BKK, SIN and SYD) switch to T3 in January 2009. Note, this lounge presently offers dining facilities and showers.

Sorry.... another dumb question :)

Do you need to have your own towel for shower use? Or do they supply some like a hotel?

They give you a towel. It's not a fantastic towel.

... also things like toothpaste, shampoo, hair conditioner, soap, safety razors, shaving cream, combs ...

G'donya ... hope you get that exit seat (although, do not, repeat, do not, go from 39D to 46/58/A/K exit [{non}window] seat).

I ended up in 58c. I'm tall so the legroom is the biggest thing for me. So I'm happy to have the exit row.

Writing this from QP waiting to board :)

Okay thanks. I was more interested from a status points point of view. Economy gets me ~280 pts which is about 20 pts short of Gold. But Discount Economy only gets me 140 so I'd still have heaps to go :( But no matter :P
Do you already have 400 SCs this membership year and you are only 300 SCs short of qualifying for QF Gold?

If not then do note you need 700 SCs to qualify for QF Gold and then 600 SCs to retain it.

Cool; I hope that was all the way. :D

Sure was. The galley was a bit annoying with staff and thirsty people constantly brushing past but more than worth putting up with for the 3m of leg room :)

Just a shame BA lost my bag at LHR so it never came with me to Geneva. Thats why im on the web now, waiting to see if it came on the next morning flight :( Sigh

Disappointed with my HKG to MEL leg home. I was told I could have a window exit row only, no aisle. So I took just a regular aisle seat as the exit row window seats have less legroom thanks to the door. Anyway, when I got on the plane there were 2 aisle exit row seats empty. Not impressed. Surely the 'trim/balance' of the aircraft is not a worthy excuse here....and the plane was 'busy' but definately not full. Plenty of spare seats.
