Mystery Qantas Club membership?

I just logged in to my Qantas account and noticed that there’s a box at the bottom of the ‘My Account’ page stating that I’m a member of the Qantas Club, despite never having joined. I’m a PC member but haven’t ever qualified for PC+, so it’s not from that. The membership shows in my online account, but is not reflected on my digital membership card (although I’m not sure if it would typically show here for WP members in any event). The expiry date aligns with my WP membership expiration date.

My understanding is that Qantas Club doesn’t bring any additional benefits over WP so I’m not too excited, but curious nonetheless whether this is a glitch? Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea where the mystery QP membership may have come from?IMG_0027.jpeg

Qantas Club access/membership is complementary with Gold and above - that is probably what this relates to.

No it’s not. Yes you get access to the Qantas club and other lounges, but you don’t get membership, in the same way that you do via paid membership or PC+ (but why would you want to?).

In fact if you have paid QC membership it is suspended when you reach gold.

That was my understanding which is why I thought it odd. I also don’t recall this appearing until recently - I don’t believe it was there when I was gold.

School holidays don't end until next week. Check then.

BD

Not sure how school holidays would be relevant to this?

What is the difference between "get access to the Qantas Club" and "you don't get membership"? What do you miss out on from one to the other?

If they let you in the door of the Qantas Club then you must have membership.

What do you miss out on from not having a paid membership to "only" having access permission because you are Platinum?

The Qantas website makes this pretty clear on the benefits table for different tier types:

On my "Your Account" page I have that same sort of box with my Qantas Club membership expiring on 30 June 2024 even though my status rollover is 30 November 2023. This is because many years ago before I had status I purchased Qantas Club membership and then subsequently the paid membership was suspended while I held complementary membership through my status. This suspension of paid membership has been standard practice for many years and they have always had this anniversary date in the background in their systems - but perhaps they have made it visible on the website now in an effort to provide more information and transparency about a members account details.

Access doesn’t equal membership. I’ve got access to AA Admirals Club as well, doesn’t make me a member.

It’s a subtle difference, but Qantas Club membership refers to the method of entry (which is why it’s listed on its own line in the table you posted).

We're discussing Qantas Club not AA Admirals Club. Big difference.

And the difference is so "subtle" - as you point out - that there is no difference that you have been able to identify.

It is listed on its own on the table because there are different lounge types across the Qantas network (Business, First, International, Domestic etc) that have different access rules that are listed below the Qantas Club entry.

I'll also add this, from the QFF T&C's:

Gold is superior to Qantas Club. Platinum is superior to Gold. I never said having Qantas Club membership gives you anything Gold does not.

Yes, it has its own line because Qantas Gold members have different access to Qantas Club members.

You can say “gold includes all the benefits of Qantas Club membership“ but it does not include complimentary QC membership. Many of us have QC membership and Gold or above, QF suspends our membership until such time we need it again.

I can see it on my profile too with an expiry date of 31 July 2024, which doesn't align with my membership year (ends 31 December). I am currently WP and have requalified (at least) SG this year so it doesn't look like it's linked to my status.

The T&C's seem to contradict your last statement quite clearly.

(a bit random!)

I am LTG, but I've seen other expiry dates listed of 2066 or so? what are they saying to me? lol
Do you know when you qualified for LTG?
Or, what is your birth year?

I would assume that as with LTG you receive, effectively, lifetime Qantas Club membership, the system may default out a long term date well into the future and the system might do something quirky like "add 50 years to the members year they qualified for LTG" or "add 100 years to the members birth year" to create an expiry date to Qantas Club membership as the system may not like a null field for the date and they don't want a date in the system that will ever expire.

I'm just guessing here, but there would be some weird logic to this.

Yes well you’ve got me there. Reading further it refers to international Qantas Clubs that don’t exist. Who writes this stuff?

i might call and ask for my Qantas Club membership to be cancelled, now that I have LTG and don’t need it. I wonder what they will say?

My date shows 30 Jun 24. No relevence to me at all

Yes - ask them to cancel your membership and ask them for a refund of the membership fee for your unused portion of membership.....they will most likely make their head spin. They will probably offer you a flight credit for the amount 😂

But that’s the complicating factor is I do have paid Qantas Club membership that I haven’t received a refund for yet. I doubt their system could handle simultaneous memberships so if they were going to use this field properly it would be to track paid memberships, I think they know that gold and above get access.

It looks very much like a bug in the site for anybody that has gold or above.

Looks like I've got this too - I'm QFF WP with PC+ (not LTG until next year)... the expiry is neither my membership year ending, nor when I attained PC+

Mine shows until the date of anniversary ... guess it's just a *blah* went wrong ... whatever *blah* is for QF ..

WP, PC+, GT until 31/12/23

Hopefully will retain WP, will not retain PC+ (not even PC, at this rate), may retain GT
