I had my first experience with the new MyWay+ app and associated QR code. Well, what a disaster. Holding up people boarding the bus while the machine tries to read the QR code on the bus, and it's even worse when exiting the bus. It's even worse on the tram stations when the sun is shining on the machines. You can barely read the screen.
I'm not sure what Canberrans think, but I can't imagine why they chose this system.

but I can't imagine why they chose this system.
Having worked (briefly) for the ACT Govt in a past life, I can certainly imagine why, but I won't say, as I don't want to be sued, or worse.

I have a free MyWay+ card which gives me free travel in the ACT (age 70+), and I haven't had any problems with it so far. The card reader or system not working doesn't really count, as it's then free for everyone.

I agree that the QR code is a bit flaky, but it’s just one way of paying. You can also tap a Myway card or credit/debit card. If you have a concession such as Seniors Card, you can link it and a credit/debit card to your Myway account and you’ll be charged the concession amount ($0 off peak) when you tap that card (either the physical card or your mobile wallet).

Yeah I find people who use QR codes slow down the whole world. Not just public transport, at the footy, events, everywhere. Bring back tickets.

I gave up on the QR code and paid $5 for a physical card. Not sure what my case with a transit officer would be if I explained that the QR code didn't scan 🫢

The QR code didn't work well for me, so I use a card now. There are other issues with the reader machines itself. In addition to can't see properly due to sun/reflection, some readers don't make the beep sound when tapping on/off which is a major issue when the screen isn't clearly visible. Also imagine visually challenged pax, how would they know if the tap on/off is successful?

Another issue - the card reader freezes in buses sometimes. This causes issues when tapping on/off.

Also, When MyWay+ was introduced, $50.xx was deducted from my balance for some reason - I still did not get it back. Couldn't find the time to call TC and followup.

I got a new myway+ card as soon as they became available before the system was turned on.
The QR code is a mess (not that I've been using the buses for the past 6 weeks while overseas). They were too large for the readers to scan them upon release, and many people don't even have them ready to scan before they get on board, so they just waste time pulling out their phone, opening the app and accessing the QR ticket.

The bus route that I use to get to/from work, at least before I went on holiday, almost always has a problem with the system with readers not working. Around 70% of my trips thus far since they turned the myway+ system on have been free because the bus had old equipment or the new card reader wasn't working.
