Hi,
I'm wanting to utilize the Name your own price feature on priceline for hotels in New York however when it comes time to putting my details in it appears to only allow people with a US billing address to progress through the booking.

Given that I discovered this from someones post on this forum can anybody inform me how I may use this given that I am a non-US resident?

Thanks.

I have booked quite a few hotels in the US using Priceline and I inserted my Australian address but just added a '0' to my postcode (zip code). No problems.

Its often the 'zip code'. I use a zip code in LA, 90045.

Apparently your 'zip code' is not needed to prevent anyone mis-using a stolen credit card. Rather, its used to gather demographic data on where customers reside. Accordingly, the card 'works' with a US zip code.

Doesn't the 'Name your own price' feature force you stay whereever they plonk you? I was going to use "Name your price" until locals at a club told me the hotels were in gang territory.

each location is broken up into districts and you pick the district and minimum star rating when naming your price, then the site looks for a match for you. I have never had a problem. There are some good websites with tactics on getting the best result such as:
www dot betterbidding dot com

I did it about a month ago for the Westin LAX which I got for like $85 a night. I just put in the address of the Miami Hilton where I was at the time when booking with no issues checking in at all. Overall good value.

i normally put my full aussie address in the 2 lines for the address space

then use a NY or LA postcode.

made about 5 bookings this way with no probs.

you'd think priceline would have realised how many non US people make bookings and updated the page.

so far i've had no complaints with the hotels they've provided me.

As a matter of fact I used Priceline "Name Your Own Price" last night :D

My home address and credit card billing address are both in Sydney, and the way to get around it, is just to enter any postcode/zipcode that is 5 digits long - so for me I just add an extra 0 to my real postcode.

I was successul in my bid, and you should have a read at www.betterbidding.com which helps you in making your PL purchases.

I managed to get a 10 night booking at the Sheraton Waikiki for US$99 per night (which is a fab rate) though I know I forgo my points and likely oceanfront suite upgrade as a SPG Platinum - but you never know what can happen at check-in esp. if I flash my PLT card and badger them a little for an upgrade.

Thanks for everyones help on this.
I managed to start putting bids in last night. Looking for 14 nights accommodation in NYC between 20/12 and 03/01 which is proving to be quite expensive, as expected.
So far no successful bids, guess I'm being too cheap?

Cheers,
Blake

May be too early to book for December?

You can also try to break up your 14 night stay. I suspect it will be easier to get a few days, rather than 14 straight days.

Unfortunately Christmas/New Year is absolute peak time for NYC.In past years prices go up as you get nearer to the time.May be different this year but i wouldn't count on it.
Just checking the Hilton site their prices are a fair bit lower than last year with AAA rates of $US199 for the Millenium Hilton and $US161 for the DT Metropolitan.

Which from my looking and recent experiences of NYC prices are rather decent. A good place to use reward nights if you have miles or points you can spend.
