Multi-story townhouse and the NBN box and modem are on the ground floor - which all works fine (250+/20+ over 5G wifi channel). Next floor (study & bedrooms) gets patchy and top floor (main TV / Apple TV) is borderline. So I have PL adaptors to study with Ethernet port for PC plus a wifi repeater that provides decent coverage. The BW loss up the PL is about 50%+ but still better than some get out of their primary modem/router.

I‘ve pondered a mesh network but they‘re still pretty expensive as a replacement for something that’s actually working…

Yesterdays deal was an all time low for the TP-Link Mesh Router set up. I nearly pulled the trigger but like you, I don't "need" to upgrade, my D7000 is still going strong.

I've just ordered some new PL adaptors. Will be interesting if I get more speed upstairs or have done my dough.

Also 5Ghz not as good as 2.4Ghz for passing through walls.

They’re a relatively cheap solution to plug gaps - so long as your home electrical wiring is in good order and the GPOs you want to use talk to each other. Some experimenting might be required to work out which pairs work fastest.

But the tech is probably nearing the end of useful life. The nominal 1GB is nothing like actual BW achieved (probably closer to ~100 mps or less).

Yes, that’s been my next preference to replace the PL adapters after a mesh (after getting someone in to run cables, make a mess etc), it’s probably going to cost the same.

I have my device set to auto connect to the 5G channels (same SSID on both) and they roam quite well throughout the house (they don’t get stuck connected to the first one but the strongest single).

I currently use a 10 year old (or there about) NetComm PL adaptor. Found this TP Link kit for $100 so thought I'd upgrade and see what happens. If no better than the 25Mbps I'm currently getting it hasn't cost me the earth to try.

How can you live with 25 meg?

The insulation I used when building my house effectively turned it into four faraday cages. So, to overcome that I used multiple Ubiquiti access points on the ceiling, all with Cat 6 backhaul. A subsection of the network is 10G. I’d like to extend that a bit, but might make do with 2.5.

I have just purchased a Telstra wifi dongle (so can take it anyway plus it's also battery powered) and am getting speeds between 350 - 500 mbs. Amazing. Who needs NBN?

Damn I could have lent you mine - I also have a Portugese one because I forgot that it was locked and when they said it was locked I was happy to pay the $20 to unlock it but it would take 10 days
