Nearly half of all aircraft noise complaints in Australia last year were filed by a single person

Hmmm…

The Project reported this last night but pluralised it to ‘Perth residents’ filed nearly half of all complaints. Which made sense. One person is quite some effort!

From the MSN link
  • A Perth resident accounted for nearly half of Australia's aircraft noise complaints in 2023.
  • There were 51,589 in total, with one person who lives under a flight path complaining 20,716 times.
  • In comparison, according to Airservices Australia's data, the runner-up complainant from near Brisbane made 4,071 complaints.

There were 51,589 complaints in total last year, data shows — more than double the 2022 tally of 25,178.

So as a guess 90% of the complaints were made by 10% of the individuals.
Make so many complaints would have the result of having all his/her complaints ignored.
Also wonder if the complaints stated how may years they lived at their address *before* the airport was constructed.
Population is increasing, cost of travel decreasing over time (compared to average wages) and more people are flying. That's the way of the world.

Seems like Air services Australia needs to put a block on certain telephone numbers.

That's not always the case.

Mum and dad and 2 kids moved into a house not far from airport in 1974 where there were no aircraft overhead.

Then some dope got into power in the 90s and all flight paths were shifted from North Shore suburbs to South-Western suburbs. I filed lots of complaints as our house was shaking when aircraft were landing overhead. The noise was deafening. Every 2 minutes. But luckily the flight paths have moved again.

We should not have to predict aircraft movements in future years when buying a house. We should not have to be under some flight path when the flight path wasn't there before.
