Hi Everyone

Booked PER- HKT with QF in August and my points expire in Sept with only 15 short of silver any way to get those extra 15, look forward to ALL Answers.

Short of doing a flight, not much, I take it you are in PER?

So after your HKT flight you'll be 15 SC's short of silver? (note that Status Credits are different to points. QF points don't expire). You can onl yearn SC's by flying, but given that ANY qantas marked flight will earn you at least 10SC's a return trip to anywhere will get you an extra 20SC's. So best to try to get another flight in between now and when your anniversary renewal date is.

Should probably add that the benefits of Silver are not really worth it in my opinion. Silver is worth paying for that extra flight, if you know that from Sept 12 to Sept 13, you'll fly enough to get to at least gold level. Again my opinion, but if you're not flying regularly at a level to earn at Least gold next year, the moneys put to better use on something else.

Add a stop-over in SIN, and get the cheapest starter plus flight to somewhere and back (e.g. KUL).

The OP has yet to book the flight, as per my response on the other thread:

Why not stopover in SIN each way, and book SIN-HKT as a separate ticket with 3K and take the plus option, will work out similar pricing but you get the SC you need.

Silver is definitely worth it for 15 SC's, the preferred seat option on Intl is worth it alone (not as good as SG.etc. but still better than NB and beats the $20 per sector fee) , business check in Internationally is good. The bonus points are good.
I've also got a few Op-Ups internationally as a QP PS. Nothing as a QP NB in the past.
Each to his own I guess, but for the sake of $100-200 you may as well get Silver.

It all depends on how much you plan to do the following year when you have that status. If you're going to qualify for Silver, then not fly again, its not worth it.

At only 15SC's, it is probably worth it... Being in PER makes that a little hard, but any of the QFLink intrastate flights would be enough to tip you over to PS.

Online seat selection, PE or J check in, better upgrade options, plus all the OW Ruby things which other OW airlines offer (IME other OW airlines often treat QF PS's much better than QF), as well and the piece of plastic which can only be obtained by actually frequently flying is all things which are nice.

Free Q-Tag bag tags :) normally $49.95 each no biggie but still they're pretty good and durable.

I just spent the weekend at 'Frequent Traveller University' (FT University: Home)

I must say, one of the sessions was very interesting (from a US FF perspective).

"The end of Elite status - Why you shouldn't care about loyalty"

At the beginning of the session, they added the caveat '...unless you're top tier'.

It's starting to ring true in AU. I agree with SBF that it's probably not really worth it. The advent of OLCI and efficient self-serve kiosks, you should question whether you're going to get value out of it.

Being based in PER it's not going to be cheap. PER-ADL will get you 15, or an intra-WA flight return for 20, neither of which will be especially cheap.

If you're not going to fly enough once you have Silver to make the 50% point bonus pay, there's no real other benefit (unless you're planning on coming to the USA where AA are happy to provide you with Priority AAccess which is early boarding and priority security, both essential for travelling in the USA).

To surmise the FTU session, the US carriers are all starting to sell elite benefits or bundle them with CC's. UA have a credit card that gets you priority boarding, security, 2 free checked bags per person per flight and 2 lounge passes per year. Other airlines are doing similarly.

Only you can tell if it's really worth it, but for Silver, I wouldn't personally be too concerned (15 to gold, is another matter as that's where the 100% points bonus kicks in, better reciprocity on oneworld and lounge access).

The RFID bag tags are not a priority tag as such, apart from their color they have no meaning in the system in that respect. Its well known that those wearing their status on their bags often are not holding that status, particularly with carry on!

Those RFID tags are useless unless you are travelling Qantas domestic with checked luggage.

Any priority that Qantas might use when employing these tags comes from the booking, not the tag.

Since I rarely check luggage domestically, mine are still in their original packaging.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Perth-Kalgoorlie return.

Perth - gladstone has better bang for your buck, but you do have to book ahead to get the cheap price :)
Gives way more than 15 sc though.

I can get out and back to Kal in 1/2 to 3/4 of a day. Bit tough to do that with Gladstone. ;)
