Bundy, melatonin is available in supermarkets & drugstores in the US, on the shelves. My uncle also used to pick it up from the pharmac_ at SIN airport years ago, not sure if this is still possible.
Still got to get to those places ...
Melatonin is also widely available in Oz at compounding chemists.
There has been a Cochrane review on it's use in preventing jet lag.
I use it frequently long-haul.
Remember that the results from Melatonin vary quite considerably from person to person. Some people, myself included, actually have the reverse out come after taking them.

It's a bit of hit and miss I think. I have slept for 8 hours on some BKK SYD legs and have had nights I could not sleep at all... Best one with the temperature is to leave the blanket and try to sleep on your side... And as mentioned before a good drink can do the trick ;)

So sleeping in Y will be almost impossible. I need to find a good chemist who will give me the non prescription drugs so I can sleep in Y. :(
Not impossible for some. I am one of the lucky ones that has no problems sleeping upright anywhere. Only last week I managed to sleep for most of the SIN-MEL flight (woke for ~15 minutes to have meal) in economy in 40G.

I definitely do not have any problems sleeping in business class....

I find the Sky Bed Mk1's hard to sleep in, most flights SYD-LAX-SYD I would be lucky to get 3-4 hrs sleep.. I have since found if i dont take the bed all the way flat (well on the angle) and leave a small kink in the bed i sleep much better.. can sleep on the side or on the back in this config (and i cant normally sleep on my back)..

I came home from LAX Monday night, and got about 7 hrs total, so either i am getting lucky or the slight adjustment to the seat has helped.

The Sky Bed MK2 on the 380's is much better when its horizontal, so i generally get an hour or 2 extra in those..

Cheers
Fuzz

I contemplate hurting myself on 5hr + Y flights... I end up falling asleep waking up with a dead leg and a sore neck...

On a slight tangent do people find that the Skybed MK 1 are very noisy when adjusting? I was woken up a couple of times by the noise of neighbours adjusting...

On the other hand... the AA seats are quite quiet though they do that weird thing of rising up for the middle seat settings...

I wouldn’t go that far, but I have been known to wake up with a wet patch on my shirt, so I must drool a little when sleeping upright ;)

i am not a fan of medicines but i would advise something which doesn't cause headache etc.

Ive also read reports from the AIS regarding using melatonin on athletes to prevent jetlag with very positive results.

I do not have any experience with such medicines.

Melatonin is a hormone, not a medicine, subtle but important.

Can import three bottles no problems or get a srcipt. Others will know more, review post I suugest.
