Netflix now able to download for viewing later

And if your hotel restricts what you can access on their network (streaming shows for example), if you don't have a Chromecast, now's the perfect time to get one. Hook it up to the TV, create a hotspot on your phone, connect the Chromecast to that and cast your downloaded shows to the TV.

Google - "Chromecast without wifi"

This is a huge advance. Not only for the convenience of users but also from a network capacity view.

When you look at how peak download occurs internet companies have to deal with 2 to 3 hours of very high demand, with large periods where demand is less than 20% of capacity.

Netflix has grown to be around 40% of peak time traffic.

hopefully this will allow a lot of netflix users to download their shows out of the night time peak, which will reduce the pressure on internet companies to either leave customers unhappy between 7pm -11pm, or push prices up to have a lot of excess capacity to deal with the short peak loads.

the same issues that saw electricity prices to nearly double over the last 5 years are begin faced by internet companies, only they don't have the Govt guaranteeing them a relatively high rate of return.

Downloaded Outlander series and a movie for trip to Singapore and Cruise over Christmas. Never seem to get time to watch these at home.

Love this feature but the downloads expire after a certain time which is a PITA when on holidays and don't have access to unlimited data plans...

Hotel wi fi doesn't like downloading 20 or so GB of data

I had downloaded a whole series and last night found they had all expired as I tried to watch them. How long do they last? Seems a stupid idea as they are still available to download.

Just saw I posted this further up - these are the ones that expired.

Useless - google search says they all vary from 48 hours to 7 days!

My guess is app 14 days but some seem longer

According to what I've read online, there's supposed to be a way to renew without downloading again, but I can't work out how.

Just downloaded The Santa Clarita Diet. That's me sorted for QF1 next weekend.
I'm glad I bought the 256GB phone now :D

My JQ flight last week would be eventful if I read this thread earlier.
A little digging into the expiry and it varies from 48hrs to 7 days and for some titles up to 30 days.

I re downloaded an Outlander episode this morning and found that the episode expires in 37 hours. I find that rather pointless.

I agree. It should be a minimum of 2 weeks.
