Just 8 hours left for this promotion ...

I am thinking it's getting close to the end for this with DM - at least at these prices.
Shall we have bets then, I'd be betting on at least one more. I dont think the programs will merge until next year and the promo department has to do something for the next 6 months!

I agree. I think it will be business as usual for DM right up until the day of the program merger.

It seems like things have already changed though. $15/k is not BAU.

I still bought because it was still good value, but not phenominal like before @$10/k.

It's not like the cost of miles has never changed before.

I first bought in Dec 2009 for $0.025 + 100% bonus. Then it went up to $0.0275. Then it jumped to $0.035.

The price of miles changing is totally BAU.

Didn't bother with this offer with the increase in price plus I already have a heap that I need to draw down.... Hopefully if quite a few people didn't bother they might reduce the price for the next one... You can hope anyway...

Where did it say Lifemiles prices were going up???

Well that's promotions people for for you, they earn their keep by tweeking the promos.

Not sure if agree that this is an indication of "change" though or just another variation on a promo. Last I looked they had NOT changed the share rate in the membership guide i.e. the $15/k is just a temporary measure due to expire in a few hours. Of course also not saying it hasn't changed, just that in the past people have made many predictions that sharing or buying was dead (or changed) then US suddenly ups the ante and offers multiple shares/buy promos in a short time. So about the only thing I feel comfortable predicting is that its unlikely they will do nothing.

In the fine print in a Lifemiles email I believe. Here it is if you can understand Spanish!

I understand what you're saying and take your point. But this isn't really an increase in the cost of miles. As burmans stated, it's a tweak of the promo to align it closer to the value of 'buy miles' promos.

To me, a sign that the days of buying 50k miles for ~AUD600 are over. Not necessarily a diversion from BAU, but a shame nonetheless.

Damn I forgot to do my share earlier today and missed out. Now I have orphaned miles. There better be another buy or share promo sooooon!

So post promo share transactions are back to:

Miles are shared for $0.01 per mile plus a processing fee of $30 and a tax recovery charge of 7.5%.

Did anyone do any complex family sharing with this promo? What worked out to be the best strategy? If I'm trying to get 140k in four accounts and 150k in another two, how many family accounts will I need and what are the share amounts? Starting with 50k in one.

The last share promo was unusual because it involved a 25% 'rebate' back to the person doing the share.

Hopefully the next share promo will go back to the regular method - you just share whatever you want and the recipient gets the whole bonus.

Each account can only receive a maximum of 50K miles per bonus. So getting 140K won't be possible from a start of 50.

Yeh that is the best case but I am assuming that split of the bonus miles was a function to stop the 'bouncing' of miles - my thoughts are it is something permanent.

With 50k start, I managed to work out a way to get 140k+ into two accounts (e.g. sharing 50k from two difference accounts into one account would net the beneficiary 150k). The biggest issues I ran into working examples was the amount of miles left orphaned in family accounts.

I guess there is no point worrying about it now, I'll just sit and wait to see what they throw at us.
