Those AA deals are running hot - but why have a 'normal' price if there is constantly a 'deal' on. They certainly seem keen to sell them.

So up to 50% bonus. Should make the cost around 2.1-2.2 US cents per mile

Well if you checked QF availability for 2 premium seats to EUR or USA you would not buy any points ;) And AA must be loving Australians for buying all these points that they can't use. A bit like QF selling points to everyone, then you end up paying the cost of the regular fare by way of taxes, or better still, redeeming toasters.

Its the normal full cost non promo. So 100K points ( + 50k bonus) is USD $2950 +++

breakdown is

Cost of miles $2,950.00 USD
Federal excise tax $221.25 USD
Processing charge $30.00 USD
Total charges $3,201.25 USD

for 150,000 miles = $0.021 /Mile. pretty much same as last time. not great but useful if there's something you want now

2.06c per mile if you go with the best option though. (90+50)

Even 75+40 better value than 100+50

I'll grant you USA. Plenty of availability ex-Asia though to USA. Also not too hard to pick up two F seats on QF to and from LHR in fact nabbed two earlier in the year for Feb 16.

gd point -
here's a short summary for anyone who's wondering / got lost going through the posts
75+40 = 2408.44 USD = 2.09c per mile
90+50 = 2884.13 USD = 2.06c per mile
100+50 = 3201.25 USD = 2.1 c per mile

I'd be interested but CX availability seems dire these days...not sure if any of the talked about changes to Asia Miles inventory management have actually come into play?

I actually found CX pretty good. I recently took a trip to Mumbai in April and it wasn't easy but I got it done without too much difficulty. What's better is a few weeks before the trip I changed the return leg to stay in HKG a few extra days at no extra cost! All in J though.

CX doesn't do much F class anymore, if that's what you're after.

If you follow the 'don't buy because there is no availability' argument, then you'd not belong to QFF or any OW points-earning scheme.

I do buy on these promos, for 'special event' redemptions, when I have flexibility - especially for Etihad F ; its a real bargain.

Indeed.

OT, CX have been easy pickings for award seats via QFF - hope that doesn't change. Later this year we're heading to Europe with CX - found it very easy to secure a mixture of F/J for the four of us.

No only J really. And I would agree that recently, I've had plenty of luck searching for CX J...but very recently i.e. this week when I'm looking for similar I'm seeing slim pickings to nothing!

Thanks for the calculations. The AUD/USD rate is a little better than for the last promo. So this may work out better value. Is there a max amount of points you can buy per year? I remember there being a limit, but not sure whether that was promo miles awarded, or miles 'purchased.'

A few months back, maybe six months ago, I was optimistic but over the last few days of searching I can't find 2F seats SYD/MEL-DXB- LHR for 2016 anymore.

** edit ** speak of the devil, some availability mid January - just doing some searching now.
