Morning All,
Looking to make use of this current promotion to make a return to the Land of the Rising Sun in Jan next year, flying at the pointy end for the first time. Looking through the AAdvantage site there is only QF economy on the SYD-xBNE-NRT routing available and nothing for the return. The QF site shows a similar lack of premium seating available on the direct SYD-HND flights. However, the JL mileage bank site is showing J availability on the SYD-NRT leg and a "seat requiring waitlisting" for the return. My questions are, would it be possible for the AAdvantage miles to be used to book these award seats, particularly the wait listed seat? I have read mentions of seats that can't be seen online being booked by calling the AA centre, is this the american office or do they have a local number to call? Final question, is the angle lie flat older style of J in the JAL 777 worth the $2500 it would cost to buy the miles through AA?
TIA

$2500 return to Tokyo doesn't seem to bad for a proper business class long haul flight however if you are willing to fly budget, you pay 80% less and can use the saved money, for land spending. Just my $0.02.

AFAIK you can't waitlist award seats - they have to be available for you to book immediately unless you are booking directly with JAL on their FFP. If there're no seats even available on the JAL website itself for their own metal then i doubt anyone else is going to "see" flights unless there's phantom availability.

as what alan said below, the current jetstar birthday sale might be worth looking at.. some real cheap JPN flights there

Check availability on JAL through BA site, you will need to call AA to book it though. I just booked First class USA - TYO and then business TYO - SYD.
