New Adelaide Qantas Club & Business Lounge

And SYD, MEL International J which are also slated for 2024 renovation (and expansion for MEL)

While I'm happy ADL-heavy pax are getting a J lounge, it's astounding domestic SYD J isn't getting a refresh. It's almost as though it's QF's retort when accused of being SYD-centric.

Even before the renovation, I have actually preferred Adelaide's Qantas Club to the Sydney domestic J lounge because:
- It feels less crowded
- It is easier to get a shower because there are more of them
- I've found the food tends to be better (of course nowhere near MEL, BNE and PER J lounges but better than the Sydney one).

Staying OT, but I suspect the reality with SYD (apart from a lick of paint, new furniture and most importantly - some sort of signature food improvements) is that they’re horribly real estate constrained. Short of going up another level (huge job) or something over the round bit (actually IMHO, a lost opportunity not to have put a lounge up there back in ~2000. Fantastic plane spotting views!

Actually, a more sensible idea would be reabsorb the current J lounge footprint into the QP (whence it came) and join the dots between T3 and T2 by bulldozing the dodgy demountable G16+ (the old Compass gates!) providing an airside connector and a fabulous new J lounge above it - with views directly across to the QF F lounge with the peeps there saying I’m glad I’m hear and not there 😉. I might actually consider flying JQ ex-SYD if commonsense frevailed.

Apparently, the heritage terminal building* is an issue, but that could actually be incorporated, restored and used to house some concessions - craft beer bar? Restaurant(s)? etc slap bang between T2/T3.

*the little observation deck is still there but AFAIK that’s been closed to public access for decades…

QF newsroom ---> https://www.qantasnewsroom.com.au/m...ge-precinct-redevelopment-ready-for-take-off/
99% of the time better to reference QF newsroom and not bloggers ~ newspaper reporters (=airline PR spin)
The media (not the bloggers) got that 1% right this time.

Lounge is packed every morning that I go through there and I reckon every single QF early morning flight I’ve been in J is full. Plenty of business people commute to MEL frequently especially
And then mid morning with AirNZ using the lounge I believe. It was packed last September for this reason.

My QFd J flights tend to be after the morning rush, ie, 11am or so, when I can get the J1 from near my place to the airport.
I guess if they do remove the former computer use tables, and put in more smaller tables and chairs, it could be a better use of space, seeing that they wont bring back the computers, ... tho they were a nice touch, but maybe too expensive to run, electricity, computer wires wear off, paying for the upkeep of the computers etc.
I now use my own smartphones, ...
Hopefully, if they do put in small tables, that they can somehow put in more charging ports.
But I guess, in the end, we have to wait and see how they do make ure of the space, if they are not going to make extra space, by going up or out into the dash8 parking area.
---
To sum up, they might put in an internal wall to split the J lounge and QP, seeing as of now its a combo.
Like when they swapped the layout of the MEL QFd J lounge and the QP.
Cut this, put this here, put that there, """"(magically, its so *new*)""".
The artist impression does look good tho.
Seriously, I wonder how they are going to make it work.

There is now. This morning on entering lounge was taken through to the old Chairman's Lounge which is now 'J' and shown where everything is. Slightly reduced offerings, and spread around the room, a coffee bar area on entry. Not sure they have it flowing smoothly yet, but I guess it's a stop gap. Was fairly busy at 530am which surprised me.

Earlier today I received a very excited text from a friend, newly minted platinum, telling me the ADL J lounge had opened. He was sitting in it. It's "bloody beautiful" he said. "Bacon and eggs for breakfast". A quick search of the net returned no results for an open lounge.

Five minutes later, he messages again. Somehow, he's found his way into the chairman's lounge. How that happened is absolutely beyond me.

Chairman's Lounge is the' new' J during renovations. They were taking all WP through this morning. Not sure where CL are now , will have to ask a friend.

yup, but entered after Qantas Club desk not through the CL door further down

CL is being utilised as of late last week for WP and plus. I'll post pix tomorrow.

Well that sucks. Seems the platinum lounge not always open and the reduced QP is tiny. Don’t even think about grabbing food here. It’s just a space at the end of the bar. MrP is coming in later. Just curious if he gets a different option.

Well. I’m calling sexism. I got told to turn right. Which is into the original QP. MrP arriving later, got shown into the Chairman’s Lounge. He called me wondering where I was. We are both WP and it’s on the tickets.

Has he 'invited' you over? Given the sequence (MrP after you), unlikely to be a 'capacity' issue in the CL. Ask the question of staff!
