New Amex redemption rates for SQ/EK; adding transfers to QR/HA

Just zeroed out my MR balance, it's been a while since it's been emptied!

Have never felt poorer before.
Back to the drawing board now to figure out how to maximise KF earn whilst on the ground... the options are dwindling but as they say, where there's a will there is a way (maybe).

0 Amex points here with 1,500,000 transferred to SQ.

Earning points is getting harder and harder

I miss the days of buying Westfield XS gift cards and paying my Amex bill at the post office during 2013 and 2014. That was a good earner of a million or two of points for minimal spend and just some time.

Prior to that the 2008 promotion of “You are now registered to receive 5,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points for every 5 transactions you make each month from 1 September to 31 December, with no limit to the Bonus Points you can earn.

I was initially moved to 5000 points for every 10 transactions and then banned from the promotion with the reasoning "“unusual behaviour on your card, we are concerned that points earned by you in the promotion to date have potentially obtained by abuse of the offer”.

A few letters later I earned all my points and the public reply on a forum by an Amex Marketing executive around the promotion sure helped.

Those were the days :(

Has Amex ever backtracked on a change they've made after a few months? I'm hoping they see a decline in spending or SIA does something if they notice they are not getting enough passengers from AUS anymore.

Amex site is still showing transfer of 2:1 for KF. Perhaps, the system has not been updated as yet so if you forgot to transfer, now would be the last time at 2:1 for the unforeseeable future :(

Another data point: it's still 2:1 now and the transfer went through instantly at 2:1.

Just be a bit careful; check before you convert

i noticed my charges (on Australian Platinum) often post on a day prior to when I actually made them - spoke with Amex and the CSA said that their system works on US time 🤷‍♂️

maybe the transfer arrangements are too

I made a transfer just now and can confirm that my SQ balance has increased at the (old?) 2:1 ratio.

I'm tempted to do a last minute transfer especially as I will probably close my account shortly. But not entirely sure I see the value in SQ any more, to be brutally honest.

I did a transfer yesterday from my Amex charge card to KrisFlyer to cover enough for a return trip to Europe for two of us.

As others have noted, earlier today we could still transfer at 2:1 since Amex must be using US time.
I've just logged in again to Amex and the following is displayed as at 14:05 Sydney time:

IMPORTANT: Due to system maintenance, Membership Rewards points transfers to Singapore KrisFlyer and Emirates Skywards will be temporarily unavailable until 18:00 AEST. During this time, our Customer Service team is also unable to assist with transfers over the phone or chat. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Has anyone tried redeeming HA miles during peak times for Y / J? How many seats?

This may enable multiple Christmases in July (or December) up there.

Not sure how many seats they would release in peak, however they have a pretty small J cabin of 18 seats (3 rows) so cant see lots being made available.

The thing with HawaiianMiles is that every seat except the full J class inventory is made available to book through that program. The number of miles required is just higher on fuller flights.

Does anyone know if Amex-QR transfers are instant? I don't have a QR account yet but have found a redemption flight I would like to book.

It’s a bit weird that the promo lists partners and says many others but click on the participating partners and that’s all you get. A bit misleading as it also says bank transfers without qualification (except in the small print).
