New Amex statement credits

The red energy deal looks good, too bad Im not with them.
Looked at their rates and it's only 1 or 2 cents more than my current provider where I get 26% off.

Anyone wanna take advantage of this deal on my behalf? I can prepay your bill for you if we split the offer $20 for you? Ive got a few cards.

It's not that good a deal. 2c/kWh is about $40 for our 3 month bill. We use about 715 kWh over 3 months. Plus their supply charge is 9c/day more than my current provider. Any AmEx refund would be eroded within the first two bills.

That would depend on how many Amex cards you have registered

Havent seen any at local HN.

Looks like HN dont like people taking or making a buck from promos at all.

Just like Gerry and his GST and amazon.
You think it's a wonderful idea for people with 24 cards to just buy gift cards for the $50/$100 cashback on each card and then withdraw the cash and all Harvey Norman make is $5.95 from each gift card.

Agreed.
I only have electricity and I only use 1600KWh for 91 days. That ends up being $434.84 for Origin's 30% discount and $441.36 for AGL's 30% discount and $489.78 for Red Energy's 10% discount. So $55 more expensive per quarter (or $220/year).
I would need 5 AMEX cards to make it a good discount. Then there's the QFF and ability to pay by Amex without surcharges...

If you have 10 AMEX cards, apply the offer and put your account in credit. Hopefully another deal will happen in a year or you can negotiate with other providers before your discount bonus runs out.

No, 24 is obscene. The maximum morally acceptable number is 23.

Its no longer possible to do this as they seem to have stopped selling generic GCs and the ability to cash them out has gone too. Can't say I blame them but remain willing to take advantage of sloppy drafting/implementation of T&Cs

Yes and that is a shame as the $500 Visa gift cards without the cash back were very handy.

While HN furniture can be over-priced, and forget beds completely, I've always got great deals when pressing them on anything electrical or computer related.

Admittedly last time I was in there was for the last offer before they stopped the Visa 1s...

I wonder, if they still have GCs available outside of the offer period then it would pay to buy HN gcs now and redeem them in a month or two - no?

BTW - offer taken by 30,000+ card holders as of first thing this morning.

Yes you buy them then rdeem when ready

Indeed. It is moot for me though. When I sought a quote, was informed that they don't supply to my suburb in the ACT. Did the calcs for giggles anyway because I'm almost out of contract. It's a deal that would bring prices into line with other providers, so any benefit would be directly related to the number of cards registered and the time spent as a customer.

Just like Gerry and his GST and amazon.

I saw him ranting on the ABC about Amazon and the GST change. He is a cantankerous old dinosaur who couldn't find a way to streamline his business and be more competitive so instead whinged to the government about GST. As it turns out, I haven't bought a single thing from amazon.com.au since it is more expensive than other sources, such as Ebay or B&M stores.

So really ,what has lobbying achieved apart from pushing more people to shop on Ebay?

Indeed, all his ranting is out of self interest. I find it hard to see why people see him as so great aside from the dog-whistle use of Xenophobia which is obviously attractive to some (cue Trump references).

Because he plays to the string of "jobs for Australian's" (whereas it really is self-interest). And also Amazon is a big bad multi-national, so it's fairly easy for him to get so many Australian sheep following him.

I've not purchased from Amazon.com.au either and am unlikely to do so given the limited range they have and uncompetitive prices. I'll buy from Amazon.com and collect items whilst in the US.

Amazon USA will not geo block, rather you can still browse it, however when you put an aussie address it will not ship there.

How does this work in regards to bringing them into Australia when you return? I assume you would need to declare if over $900 worth but in practice does immigration even know unless you tell them?
