New Amex statement credits

Got the AVIS and KitchenWarehouse ones, but no DJ's on my QF Discovery AMEX (can't also find the manual link). I think the DJ's may be because I still have the 'David Jones Welcome Offer' from when I first got the card.

I also got the AmazonPrime credit as well. Get 50% credit, up to $30 back.

Annoyed that this Avis offer came about just as I rented a car Thur/Fri last week. Would have been useful!

Prepaid fares are often cheaper and can be canceled up to 24hr prior, at least with Hertz. Not sure about Avis.

I've found that Avis pricing is the same either way - the only difference being a supposed 'guaranteed car' when you actually arrive at the depot. Seems a bit redundant as the point in making a reservation in the first place is to 'guarantee' a car. I've had 30+ reservations with Avis (none prepaid) and no issues as of yet.

Interesting to note that about Hertz - I've never actually seen a price difference when checking out, but I'm always using a corporate code so maybe the discount is already as low as it can get.

There is often a financial benefit in doing so. You can be offered a 'pay now or pay later' option. The pay now should be cheaper. I've seen it as much as 50% cheaper.

Agree with that it's the supposed benefit. I merely note that I haven't personally ever observed it in over 30 car hires. But again, it's likely the corporate codes talking. Last rental was in fact made just yesterday: $117 for pay-at-pickup, same amount for pre-pay. I chose the former.

The primary reason I pay later is because I tend to book car reservations many months ahead (often 6-9 months ahead); however, above 50% of the time, when I perform the exact same search I often find discounts of up to 40%.
Book ahead: guarantees the car
Re-book closer to date: guarantees the car...at a cheaper price
Prepaying would preclude this.

Had a booking with Hertz for this weekend and when the Avis offer came up, I did an estimate with them and it came down to just under $100 cheaper including the Amex offer. Called Hertz and asked if they price matched, they said no so I cancelled my reservation and booked with Avis. Perfect timing!

Were you anticipating Hertz to match the Avis offer after the AmEx credit?

Yes. You can combine your gift vouchers into one purchase. Some sites, like cellarmasters for example only allow you to use one gift card per purchase.
Do you know if there's a cap for gift cards? Can I, for instance, apply five gift cards (or four plus the balance on a credit card) to a Winestar online purchase?

Not sure if limit. But I have previously used 10 in on transaction.

And even if there was a cap just make separate orders with your $150 vouchers.

If I want to buy something on Winestar for $599.94, can I just use four $150 vouchers and allow the $0.06 to go unused?

When you put in your voucher details, you then select how much of it you wish to use. I presume that means you can use the remainder (in your case six cents) another time, prior to expiry.
