New Amex statement credits

Ah yes, GWD - the graveyard for wines no-one else has ever heard of or other retailers can't sell and the winner of the "no-ones favourite online wine retailer" award.
Agree. Good luck selling this cash back deal on ozbargain!

I spent close to 90 minutes lunch break, ~60 minutes walking with over 6,000 steps to save $29.22 in Shop Small.

George St News, Casino News (waste of time as don't take Amex for Gocard), 3rd Party Perry House News and Eagle St News.

So which are the best places around CBD to top up MyKi?

Since no one was able to come up with an answer to my question, here are two places I found today:

Daily News - 452 Little Collins St

Victoria Harbour pharmac_ - 66 Merchant St

Haven't finished with the shop small yet, but the chatswood chase gift cards are pretty good if anyone is in the area.

$1.50 issue fee, 3 years expiry and will only accept physical cards all has to be name matching. Willing to split cards.

I wonder if any other wine sellers are going to join this list before xmas..

I went to Casino News yesterday and the lady behind the counter happily processed my 4 x $20 Go Card top ups, albeit with a 1% surcharge.

It appears their EFTPOS machine requires the surcharge to be applied manually.

The approach that I've found to be successful is to be discreet about the card you're using to pay, tell them you're paying by EFTPOS, then tap and go. ;)

I'm two from two not paying a surcharge at Casino News.:)

don't see why you should do that. The retailer obviously pays more for AMEX and they are willing to accept amex payments instead of outright saying no. Passing on the cost so everyone benefits instead of being an anti-amex naz_ is a win-win.

I can see where you're coming from. But I'm always discreet with my cards as a security measure so if I've given the impression I was deliberately misleading the retail - that wasn't the case.

There was no sign to say there was an Amex surcharge. There was no sign to say Amex wasn't accepted for certain purchases. So until other AFFers pointed out they were declined or charges a surcharge it was just a regular transaction for me.

I've used Shop Small at other retailers and happily paid surcharges of between 1% and 1.8%. It just happened that this retailer did not apply a surcharge to my purchase.

Some terminals automatically detect the card type (Amex) and come up with a warning of "A surcharge of X will be applied" which you have to agree to before putting in your PIN. I've not had experience with smaller transactions though.

In any case, saying you are paying with "Electronic Funds Transfer at the Point Of Sale" is complete truth. No subterfuge.

The young(ish) lass was definitely not interested and I didn't want to argue the point.
