New Amex statement credits

Trying to use the IHG offer and I have upcoming stay at ICDouble Bay. They said I can prepay and will send me a link. The link comes from "Merchant Warrior" will this still trigger the IHG offer?

All AMEX cards have a lot of details. The same question was asked recently for another offer.
Unfortunately the Velocity (or at least all of ours) do not show any detailed information, just the Airline name (if booking direct) or OTA. Perhaps the PE owners of VA didn't want to pay that enhancement?

I can’t imagine there’s anything to pay. It’s the AMEX system that usually captures that info and displays it on the monthly statements.

Here's a challenge. Login to amex and scroll down to Amex Offers, then look at column headings Available, Saved to Card and lastly Savings.
I just looked at my Savings and surprised at the number of past Savings through 2020, 21, 22, 23, and finally 2024. 2024 has just one Saving for me which was a surprise given the savings I used to achieve through Amex ownership.

Is anyone else surprised once they look at their Savings?

My savings are similarly low (just one) but not for lack of offers. Alas, I’ve prebooked things or have been OS and unable to use many of the offers.

One the QF offers landed the day after I booked some CRs…the cash back would have paid for the taxes and fuel fines…😡

Not sure what I was expecting, but my savings aren't massive. Still, if I was going to spend on these things anyway, then money saved is money saved and it's certainly better being back in my pocket.

I have healthy savings across all years until I reach 2024. The reduction in benefits amex offer has dropped dramatically.
Keep in mind the “savings” shown on the amex website are artificially inflated by savings you paid for in your annual fee (dining benefits, amazon prime, amex travel benefit).

My saving total looks good until i strip those out. I’m about $400 in savings for the year.

The offers used to be for useful merchants, now i feel its mostly junk. Every now and then a Qantas or hotel offer to use, but mostly low quality wine merchants, shoes and stores/restaurants i’ve never heard of.

On the other hand, it seems to be missing some where they silently credit, like when you don't receive the offer tracking email.

I only have free Amex cards, On my primary I have $4038 in lifetime credits and on my secondary $3007. The last few years credits on my primary;

2024 - $233
2023 - $385
2022 - $190
2021 - $561
2020 - $140
2019 - $335
2018 - $510
2017 - $758
2016 - $630

So I won't be cancelling anytime soon.

Just had a look across my 4 cards and it's showing total savings of just under $9,700. Definitely a lot less lately, though. I guess I can't complain given 2 of my cards are fee free, one is a discounted fee and one is full fee but offset by a travel credit of greater value. Still doesn't change the fact that I no longer use Amex as much, but when it works, it works!

What isn't shown under the savings is the value saved from the free travel insurance that comes with many of the cards. Mind you the old Amex Gold CC's tethered insurance is a shadow of its former self. The current platinum Amex CCs still (for us) provide hundreds in travel insurance savings.

True but we paid a $1450 annual fee …. i would have purchased travel insurance if I didn’t.

For some the straight Amex Platinum CC @ $1,495 may be (have been) worthwhile but for us the 'lesser' Amex Platunum's such as Velocity etc at sub $400 annual fees plus travel credits or free flights that sometimes have a cash cost as much as or more than the annual fees - were the clear choice. In those cases the travel insurance effectively comes at a zero cost vs purchasing separate TI.

The differences in CC, bank a/c, debit card offerings in the US. UK or Europe vs how they're done in Australia are massive. The sign-on bonuses in Australia may well be like the solar FITs - an endangered species.

Here's hoping Amex continues the occasional 5,000 point offers for a new supplementary card recipient.
