New British Airways checked baggage policy

+++ When travelling on British Airways operated flights on an Economy fare which includes only one piece of checked baggage, Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers are entitled to one additional piece of checked baggage weighing up to the applicable British Airways weight allowance (currently 23kg) at no additional charge. To receive the additional baggage allowance, Qantas Frequent Flyers must quote their Frequent Flyer number at the time of making the booking.

Yes and in typical QF/ BA fashion the link to the BA website appears to have no mention of QF WP/SG extra baggage allowances, only AA and IB

Very happy about this! Now if only they'd organise an extra WP/SG allowance on CX (which is currently only 1x 20kg), then I'd be set for a few shopping trips

Wish that was the case a couple of months ago, thus I would've done way more shopping when in Europe (at least AY honoured the extra baggage no questions asked!)

Saying that I bordered at least three different BA flights (including an Embrarer with BACityFlyer) with a heavish and largish carryon bag, so I don't fee too badly either...

We are flying out on Wednesday next week (Aug 22nd) to Nice via LHR. In the past our baggage allowance has been always crimped by the BA intra Europe leg. This is great, however I just spoke to Qantas Customer Service who can find absolutely no information on the change. I will be printing off my news letter and bringing it with me. I hope I don't have any issues.

I recall that BA was charging extra to check-in golf clubs but I cannot find anything about in on their website.

Finnair goes one better than this. It allows Qantas Platinums, Golds AND Silvers 1 extra piece of baggage at 23kg when travelling in economy class. So 1 x 23kg becomes 2 x 23kg for Silvers and above.

By the way this would be useful for QF Plat's too:

"British Airways Executive Club Gold and Silver members, AA Advantage Executive Platinum and Iberia Plus Platinum members can take the maximum weight of 32kg per bag without paying the heavy bag charge. This applies to all passengers travelling on the same booking."

When I travel long haul I can easily get the giant trolley case at 25-30kg.

Agree CX are letting te side down. I woud expect them to yield before BA actually.

Has anyone tried this in practice? Particularly on a BA flight that's not part of a wider Qantas booking? I have a standalone BA flight and my booking shows only 1 bag allowed, although i get the WP/emerald seating options on BA (it's a UK domestic flight).

I need to fly BOM-AMS later this week and would pick BA if the higher baggage allowance applied.

I have also emailed QF directly with this question and hope to have an answer from them soon.

I managed a few AY flights recently with additional baggage. I even had the website ready on my iPad just in case but the agents basically aacknowledged my right go additional baggage (the kiosk wasnt able to do it) and checked me in BAU

Well due to Resoultion 302 this would be correct. As AY is the most signigicant carrier, it will be AY baggage allowance.
