I note the "shopper docket" boarding passes issued in the Lounge have been replaced with real boarding passes. I guess another small step away from LCC.

I guess that means that the Qantas gate issued shopper dockets are a step towards LCC then?

Eye of the beholder springs to mind :D ;)

I'd didn't realise QF had shopper docket boarding passes and I guess it's not overly important anyway, but a real boarding pass typifies the VA signage into the airports........."VA, bringing the magic back to flying"! (Which BTW is something I wrote here on AFF early last year. I wonder if they borrowed my sentiments without seeking consent to use my intellectual rights? I wonder if I'm being a DYKWIA!)

Which lounge have you noticed this in?

SYD was still issuing me shopper docked Boarding Passes last week.

I have no issue with QF shopper docket BPs for DOM travel. A hard piece of card or an A4 BP from OLCI is a waste of paper. I use the Qcard at the gate and get the little docket to put in my jacket pocket - no issues. Getting a card BP is not magical for me - getting a glass of Dom perignon is!

Getting a card BP is not magical for me

I doubt it's magical for many FFers.

What I am referring to is the "magic" of flying. With LCC carriers filling a deseved place in aviation history, an unfortunate outcome is the loss of that "magical" feeling. Better described as a rewarding experience, I guess. LCCs are fine, but they rate pretty much on par with the local council bus service, a means to an end. The whole experience of flying use to be something more than ordinary. Something to look forward to. Something enjoyable, something......extraordinary!

That's what seems to be coming back, little bit by little bit with DJ. FFers may have become jaded with flying but there's a whole population of people where flying is still that exotic adventure, filled with dreams, excitement, mystery..........and that "special" boarding pass is a part of it, rather than a shopping docket just like all those pieces of scrap that cram your wallet after those very mundane and boring purchases.

Was the real BP printed on cardboard or thermal paper?

I have no issue with QF giving the dockets, as it's not like it's gone dockets all over the operation - you only get dockets if you decide to board with Q Card. Which is fair enough - getting a full BP would slow down Q Card boarding dramatically. Every other check-in method requires a non-docket style BP, and if you really want a full BP you can always ask nicely at a counter (you might get a strange look, but oh well).

Having the old cardboard BPs is a hark back to days not so long ago (and still not completely dead anyway), but I really like the convenience of NGCI and Q Card boarding (not a plug - I honestly like it).

Most of my QF BPs over the past few years have been the horrible kiosk shopper dockets made to look like BPs. I much prefer any of OLCI, MOCI or NGCI.

I'm partial to a nice BP when travelling internationally in a premium cabin, but at the end of the day I'd much rather be paying for the service / product on board (and on the ground) than a nicer piece of card. So this is very much a VA improvement that I'm not particularly fussed about - improvements to their MOCI or some sort of RFID card check in would be great though!

I may be in the minority in that i actually prefer the shop-a-dockets because they fold up and fit in my pocket. Larger cardbord boarding passes are a PITA to me to carry around. In the end it's a piece of paper to perform a functional job so i'm not too fussed - YMMV though.

Surely the QF ones look better than NZ's?

Not really as they invariably start the print somewhere off the left side of the paper. QF needs to spend some training money on how to load paper into a printer.

I agree with 777, as cheap/LCC as they can be, I prefer the paper ones, they fold well into my pocket.

*Puts DYKWIA hat on*

Also, on the card boarding passes, your status is printed in very, very tiny font. So the crew rarely notice it. I generally only get a "Welcome back Mr LiamR" if I hand then a shopper docket. Because status is printed much larger.

Conversely on QF the shopper docket has small font for status but huge font on the card BP...

Personally I would much rather have no docket, an LCD screen on my card that showed the right information, a proximity alert to tell me I am next to my seat and a Hello Mr Simongr on the IFE screen infront of me folllowed by the opportunity to pre-order my post take drink.

A card BP has no future for me.
